Our version of retirement: Living a childhood dream

Soooooo, our son and his girls, and my handyman bud will be here around noon today

Last night, I opened the fridge to forage for a snack
Noticed the light was out
Could only mean one of three things;
Bulb died
Outlet is tripped
Fridge died
FRIDGE DIED!!!!!?????
We've got a lot of Christmas dinner in the fridge
A lot
No hysterics
It's cold outside (if it comes to that)

Listened for the fridge to fire up
It's a quiet one
The furnace kinda drowns it out
Hate the thought of dragging it away from the wall to check the plug

Then the little light bulb went on above my head;
Check the bulb by plugging it into a lamp
It's dead
Shook it near my good ear
There's a rattle

All is well
It's a Christmas miracle!!!

You'll have to start restocking your good karma after the holiday.

Son and daughters just left from Christmas dinner
Very unplanned
His diesel truck wouldn't start
Worked on it for a couple days
Changed filters and such
Air in the fuel line
Primed it, got the air bled out
It'd now start, but quit
Turns out the computer would shut it down
Needed a program wipe and reboot
Got that done this morn, and off they went

We're a tad spent from those three days
and the girls were faunching at the bit

But
Turned into a blessing
The eldest girl (now 10) is experiencing more and more seizures

and a new twist: gasping for breath

We may not have her much longer
So, we consider the truck breakdown a blessing

It is something to see how the critters cope with their circumstances. Can't just run to a doctor to have it fixed. My friend videos the critters that come to her yard every day and one of the bears has something wrong with her foot. She drags it and it is very sad to me. But she looks real healthy, shiny and growing up to be a big girl. They adapt.

Got another pretty good snow early this morn

Gave me and my lady some good exercise

She sez 'We need a snow blower'
I swear, she's becoming a townie

Took us about 20 minutes to shovel that little bit of snow to the side

A few brave little feathered souls at the feeders
I think most are hunkered down due to the wind

Temps remain pretty mild

I have to admit that a small two-stage snowblower can be a nice convenience. The downsides are:
1. although it will make short work of light to moderate snow, it'll choke, gag, and clog up when used for snow that's heavy and wet.
2. it's just one more thing you have to store ... year round.
3. when done judiciously, shoveling can be a useful form of exercise. (VERY judiciously! Shoveling snow is also associated with a lot of heart attacks!! :()

I no longer shovel any snow but my (younger than me) wife still does a little.

The downsides are:
Amen to all that, brother

I learned that real quick up at the cabin
Attack that new snow now!
Wait, and you got a problem

We shoveled that lengthy path to the well only a few times
Then got a blower

Yeah, my main argument is the year round storage

Shoveling snow is also associated with a lot of heart attacks!! :()
My lady's argument

We shovel a little area at a time
(my back gives out waaay before my heart gives way)

I have a snow blower, but it is small and always gets clogged. I might need to get a larger one. Do you recommend any?

I inherited this back from my Mom's side
They're all famous for their bad backs
Most times I just grit thru it
Up at the cabin, if it started to spasm, I'd hang from a stout tree limb for awhile
When my lady saw the pain on my mug, she'd ask me why I didn't pop a Tylenol
Told her I needed to know the pain

She told me it'd loosen up if I popped a couple
and not progress into crippling spasms

Then looked at me like I was some sorta masochist

Made sense

Two Tylenol can get a lota work done
