Our version of retirement: Living a childhood dream

Did you can or freeze it? I’ve made tomato pasta sauce and canned it successfully! Fresh ripe peppers! View attachment 365322
Can't easily grow bell peppers here - too thirsty a crop - but when our grocery stores offer them for 69¢/lb or so, I buy dozens of them to cut into big chunks and freeze by 2 gallon bagfuls. They're great to have on hand for throwing into stir fries, and are excellent in sausage, peppers & onions.

Your peppers are beautiful!

Peppers require a lot of watering. During the hot summer, the plants themselves looked like they were dying but we just kept watering them. It’s good to know that they freeze well. We’ve never tried freezing them. Yesterday we made 2 batches of cucumber relish which requires peppers so we used up those peppers. I added this in my walking thread but I’ll show you a picture here. Sorry @Gary for not using bold . I forgot.

I decided to go ahead ans lay down the decking for the grape arbor while I still have any semblance of eyesight

It's gonna be ugly for awile, but.....one hopes thos vines will do their thing

I'd framed the bases of the grape vines so a bland man can weed eat

grape guard.jpg

Built the deck away from where it was to be placed because I didn't want the screws to show
So I built it upside down with cedar fence boards for tie in cross pieces
It became heavier than one man could put in place

It was only about 100 lbs
but awkward since I'd laid down some weed guard mesh

My buddy and I placed it without incident

I'll trim it out with bricks

That's gonna be nice, Gary. 🌹

Whispers of the Vine
iu

This poem captures the quiet beauty of a grapevine, reflecting on its growth and the subtle whispers of nature.

In quiet fields where grapevines grow,

Whispers of life softly flow.

Twisting, turning, reaching high,

Underneath the open sky.

Green leaves dance in gentle breeze,

Guarding clusters with silent ease.

Nature’s whispers, soft and fine,

Echo through the grapevine.

In each grape, a drop of rain,

A touch of sun, a hint of terrain.

In this quiet, peaceful shrine,

Lies the soul of the vine.

Nothing looks ugly that you do Gary. You think through things first. Thats going to be a nice looking arbour. The main thing being that it’s functional.

You’ve done so much to your place. The raised beds you created, obviously work exceptionally well. The produce you get from them is your proof.

And here they come

Just enough for 'mater sammiches

There's maybe a 100 that are still green or showing a bit of pink

Got about another week of warm/hot weather

It'll be a race

Saving grace, they're mature enough to turn by putting them in the foyer in cardboard boxes
Yours are all different colours too. You probably are growing all different types of tomatoes. I know we are.

Yes
The hope is they don't come on all at once

Most are from seeds of last year's crop

There's pink lady and tiny Tim
and purple Cherokee
and early dolls

Cool. We have Lemon Boys, Roma - plum
,Brandy Wine, Chocolate Cherry, Millions Cherry, Beef Eaters….. We have about 7 different kinds but I don’t remember them all and got some tags mixed up. The above ones are obvious.

We are freezing a lot of tomatoes cause we have far more than we can eat.
