Our version of retirement: Living a childhood dream

I've been putting unsalted peanuts on the corner of my deck and under the next door's slightly raised deck, right where I can see them when on sitting near my sliding doors watching TV on using my laptop. In past years, I've flung them around in the woods while walking doggie on the path.

But, for 1-2 years now, we've had a black bear problem, and bird-feeders, etc. are banned after April 1st.
My small pile of peanuts are safe, I hope. The bears, when they come, go for the dumpsters which back up to the woods.

I saw a chippie a few times as well as the squirrels. Love these critters.

got a call from our fisherman son

had a close call

this little one was almost taken

faith and me july 2023.jpgfaith and me july 2023.jpg2.jpgfaith and me july 2023.jpg3.jpg

they were playing in a park
resting between fishing trips

a woman took her by the hand
and started to her van

my son jumped up and grabbed her from this lady

said
what do you think you are doing?

she said she was just being friendly
then
jumped into her van and sped off

Too close

it's not a good world right now

This is so absolutely horrible! So glad that your son was close enough to stop it. At least without a license number, the description of the van and the woman may help police in the vicinity to be alerted. Has it affected the little girl negatively in any way?

A special time today
Son and his girls stopped by

His eldest girl has Dravet syndrome
Bouts of epileptic seizures 24/7
Heavy meds
She's not expected to see her teens

I don't know how he does it
He's been the nurse
the doctor
the EMT
and
The Father...the single parent

Little ones are so precious
This one, more so

I savor these moments

The Lord said it best
' Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.'

Too friendly with everyone
She will say 'hi' to anyone that comes within sight
and go off with them
Another facet of my son's worries

On the flip side
She's much like a young Helen Keller
and will scream at the drop of a hat
if she doesn't ger her way

Then, a few minutes later, she'll go into a seizure
apologizing when she comes to

My son remains exhausted on dealing with it all

We've pretty much let the garden go to seed

and purposely so
seeds for next year's garden

My lady is busy laying out the seeds to dry, then package and marking

We are still realizing yield but gonna get some low temps next week

Of which the sweet peas (my garden treasure) will do fine

It's quite overgrown now

We are doing the same Gary. We are now picking over the last of the produce and collecting seeds to dry for next year. From the vegetables we’ve made relish, chutney, tomato sauce and from apples we made some baked apple jam.

Thinking of you and your family.

You’ve been in my thoughts.
Thankyou, Jules
This blindness malady has really snuck up on me
Never considered it'd be my undoing
Always thought it'd be something like a broken back from falling off a roof
Or cutting off a limb with a chainsaw
Came close to both
The latest was running a saw across my hand

That got my attention
But
This blindness gig has been a real education

Gary,

Maybe it’s time to put down the saw, for the winter, and start recording some of your great adventure stories for the grandkids to enjoy.

Be good and if you can’t be good be careful! 😉

Reminds me of when my stepson was six or seven and went with my wife to a bookstore on the north side of campus. They separated to go their own ways and as she was walking away she heard then saw a guy put his arm on his shoulder and say something about going downtown. She grabbed on to him and the guy ran away. Definitely a different world than the one I was born into.

You'd miss that hand. Time to hand that job to someone else.

Maybe it’s time to put down the saw,
That event was around five years ago
up at the cabin

I wasn't blind then
Just lax in paying attention

I did have the presence of mind to hold my hand in the air and apply pressure to the vein
and poured some very expensive single malt on the wound

Took about 15 minutes for the bleeding to stop

Then
Iwent back to work

Wife came home
'Blood is everywhere!!'

Tis the season

I so love this time of year

I really missed the deciduous trees when living up at the cabin

They are all in their glory now

IMG_5126.jpg

and I don't dare to put a rake to the gently descending blades of brilliance

IMG_5128.jpg

I'm gonna venture to say the garden is done for the year

IMG_5129.jpg

with the exceptions of thrashing the remaining seeds to plant next year
