Our version of retirement: Living a childhood dream

Just building windows today (nothing really to take a pic of)

But, thought I'd capture a deer in the cemetery meadow behind our place

Heh, while I was zooming in, a couple deer ran right by me (almost knocked me over) and bounced into the meadow

These town deer have zero fear

Still building windows and enclosing the deck

My windows are simple
Glass
Cedar fence boards
Hinges (no sliders)
I priced windows at Home Depot
They want over $250
My home built ones are less than $50
Works for me

The rest of this week will be filling in this wall.....with windows

We did a wonderful thing today.

Wife and I were talking
Did some praying
Our commercial fisherman son has had a pretty tough time raising his two little girls.
The eldest has Dravet Syndrome.
Not expected to see her teens.
Both girls go with him on his fishing trips
It's as rugged as it gets on the ocean

I asked him if he really wanted the cabin property, as they haven't been there for months.

He said he wanted it more than anything
Said the girls love it so much

So

After much prayer

We deeded it over to him

Ever do something that fills your soul with overflowing delight?
There's no amount of money that can do that

Our rugged, hard boiled fisherman son broke down on the phone
weeping with joy

'Twas a good day

Outside most the day
Gonna be that way all week

Building the doors for the now enclosed back deck

Noticed our dandelions are going to seed

For some, these little bright flowers are a scourge to a lawn

Not for me

After six years of mostly snow for nine/ten months, I find them quite attractive

and, after they transform..... tempting

Oh, and one of the two doors is done
Just needs hardware and hanging

The town blacktail came to eat roses today

five of 'em
So, I clicked away

two mommas

Yeah, they dined on cracked corn, but were quite intent on the roses

I love seeing those deer so up close
These town deer are least skittish I've ever seen
I could prolly feed 'em by hand.
I won't though.
Couple times I saw a young buck, eyeballing the fence
Thinking 'bet I could jump that'
And I doubt they'd have much trouble, even though it's six foot.
Those blacktail can jump!
But seems enough to give 'em second thoughts
They best stick to grass, bushes and trees...not the tasty morsels of our garden

If one ever does, I'd have to fill the chain link fence with something they can't see thru

Deer are generally given to not jumping over something they can't see thru
