This is one problem that plagues me, and has created some friction in regards to my past marriage, etc. I literally need to have stuff "in sight," in order to know I have it. The best example is likely the refrigerator. I'm about 6ft tall, and don't like to bend down. I never see anything on the top shelf. I have two gallon jugs of water on the bottom of the refrigerator, and that leaves the middle shelf for any food. Obviously, I know frozen food is in the freezer, but I often forget what's in the freezer because I can't see each item.
The living room of my apartment is dominated by my computer and video stuff. I don't have many drawers. Usually whatever drawers I have are stuffed. Sometimes I take stuff out of the drawers, and put it into plastic shoe boxes. Anything that goes into the shoeboxes is almost immediately forgotten. Sometimes I just take stuff and throw it into a cardboard box. Then almost instantly I forget where I put everything.
Any time I try to find something, I launch into a frustrating search. Every time I move something, there is an avalanche of stuff. Then my nose starts dripping, then I need to run to the bathroom. Then I need to take a rest because I'm exhausted, etc. Recently I was trying to find an extra strap for my BiPap mask. The search took almost an entire day, and yes, I found it in the last place I looked!
Sometimes I tell myself I have too much stuff. But then I look at my various endeavors, and know this stuff I important.
