Out of sight, out of mind

This is one problem that plagues me, and has created some friction in regards to my past marriage, etc. I literally need to have stuff "in sight," in order to know I have it. The best example is likely the refrigerator. I'm about 6ft tall, and don't like to bend down. I never see anything on the top shelf. I have two gallon jugs of water on the bottom of the refrigerator, and that leaves the middle shelf for any food. Obviously, I know frozen food is in the freezer, but I often forget what's in the freezer because I can't see each item.

The living room of my apartment is dominated by my computer and video stuff. I don't have many drawers. Usually whatever drawers I have are stuffed. Sometimes I take stuff out of the drawers, and put it into plastic shoe boxes. Anything that goes into the shoeboxes is almost immediately forgotten. Sometimes I just take stuff and throw it into a cardboard box. Then almost instantly I forget where I put everything.

Any time I try to find something, I launch into a frustrating search. Every time I move something, there is an avalanche of stuff. Then my nose starts dripping, then I need to run to the bathroom. Then I need to take a rest because I'm exhausted, etc. Recently I was trying to find an extra strap for my BiPap mask. The search took almost an entire day, and yes, I found it in the last place I looked!

Sometimes I tell myself I have too much stuff. But then I look at my various endeavors, and know this stuff I important.

I like stuff where I can see it too.
Every so often I feel that I need to make things a bit tidier and I reorganise.
That's when stuff disappears as if entombed under a pyramid.

Years later I probably throw it out.

It would be simpler just to bring the wheelie bin inside and throw it out immediately.

Sometimes it's just little things that can be a big help in staying organized. I was constantly misplacing my glasses, FitBit device, earrings, name tag for work, bracelets, keys, basic medications. I made two designated drawers for medication. If I am not taking a pill the bottle is in it's drawer. I got three plastic trays from Target. Bright colored and inexpensive. One tray is on each floor of the house. All my accessories, keys, and glasses always get put on a tray. I might have to go up or down a floor to get my stuff, but it's definitely where I can find it.

I've lost my hammer!

I know I used it about three weeks ago, and I thought I put it back in the same place, but it's not there now when I need to use it again.

I just know if I go out an buy another one, I will find the one I have Lost.

I've gone to using certain areas for certain things, like a drawer for batteries and extra light bulbs, a drawer for keys, small hand tool like screw driver or pliers, this work fairly well. I gave up on the, put it here so I'll remember it stuff, as I keep forgetting where I put it. The area's are not all that organized, but generally I can find what I need in a few moments. I have a coffee can or two with nuts, bolts, screws, clips or any type of small fasteners in them. This saves more than a little money and time may times over.:playful: This has nothing to do with age, I've always been like this, but now I have a ready excuse-I'm getting old!:eek:nthego:
