Paint on garage side door

I've been meaning to get after this before cold weather. Wednesday I scraped with a putty knife, then with a wire brush. I figured I'd get paint Thursday when I had to go to town since I was delivering meals. Now it's too cold and rainy to do it.

Yep, sunny and warm toward the middle of the week. I hope acrylic paint is okay for outdoor use. There was a can of old enamel paint in the garage, but I've been told it's oil based and I don't have anything to clean the brush afterwards.

Soap and warm water will work if you don't wait too long.

Acrylic paint is fine for exterior walls. Protects against moisture and sunlight.

I used to do a LOT of scraping and painting when doing home repair. I'm embarrassed that I couldn't tell. So I will say it now when it counts. Good prep!

The good news is, acrylic paint is one of the best paints for water resistance. It is very durable and fast drying. For this reason acrylic paint is used on walls, wood, canvas and most other surfaces, even those that are going to be outside.

I was disappointed in the acrylic paint I used. One coat so far and I can see the bare wood right through it. I will try putting another coat on when the first dries.

It's going to take 3 coats and even if you had the very best paint available it would take 2 coats, at least.

I'm done! Step ladder put away. Three coats. Let's see how it holds up over winter. I had a brush, but had to buy the paint and paid about $5 for it (and have some left over). If I had a contractor, it probably would have cost over $100.
