Parking Barnacles, aka windshield barnacles; a rant

This is a parking barnacle..

Cops can stick this thing to your car windshield if you park somewhere you're not supposed to, and it's nearly impossible to remove. (you can find 1 or 2 tips online, but you risk breaking your windshield if you try them)

Cops say they're safer than a tire boot. I don't see how.

Anyway, I'm just here to say that for something as minor as parking where you're not supposed to, cops should not have the right to do things to your vehicle that could damage it, or prevent you from moving it, and burden you with the $200 or more it costs to remove the dam thing or repair any damage it caused in addition to the fine for parking illegally.

Just give me the ticket.
 

Do they put that barnacle thing on with the first infraction? Or is it like the third or fourth ticket on the car? I can see that if you were blocking a fire lane by parking multiple times there. It seems that if you want people to move their cars, placing that thing on their cars only makes it harder for people to comply. People drive with a boot on their front tire, so you know some jackass will be driving down the interstate hanging out the window, so they can see around it.

It isn't used for repeat offenders and parking felons ( :p ) only, but I think they're only supposed to use it after the vehicle's been there for a couple days or so.

They shouldn't have the right to use it at all.

Although....slapping one on a car while the driver is inside a store or a house committing burglary or assault, that'd be awesome!

Putting it on a stolen vehicle would be cool, too!

Well in fair balance for the sake of (as you can see dozens of helpless, innocent) barnacles that haven't much of a voice within existence versus this current news story "parking barnacle" tarnishing smear...And YES we do plan to sue! :giggle:

I have seen these things in magazines, but never up close. How does the person that removes them take them off? Is there a key? Is there an extra fine for trying to remove it yourself?

That explains how the kids got the barnacle off the w/s, but how does the Officer take it off? I doubt if he heats up the w/s and uses his credit card to take it off, does he? Is it being used again today now that the company has revised it?

I am sure that the kids who were caught that had removed it and already owed parking fines, now owes even more and may even face heavier penalties. I agree with the kids. The parking fees are ridiculous considering how much college tuition is today. I was on campus at Penn State not long ago and they have certain areas where parking is very expensive. I think it was around $16 a day. Penn State does not need the money from parking to run the school. Their endowment fund is very healthy. The last I read, their endowment fund was over $4 billion. There are other schools with much more than that. If you are a student on campus, parking fees should be excluded. IMO.
 
While it seems removable i was thinking .....
.this is a clear way for all around you know you are parking illegally and have ( in the article link) a few infractions already. Maybe it will be renaming "parking shaming" lol
it becomes a simple solution of be careful where you park and Pay any tickets you may receive

I suppose you can be fined for removing them yourself. There's a couple of videos that show you how, but they warn you can damage your windshield.

The barnacle has the phone # on it you're supposed to call to have someone come and remove it...and get your ticket ticket care of.

One nice thing you can say about parking barnacles is...they don't have worms. Probably.
