Pedophiles of 40 years ago are being punished, but what about current abusers?

Very weird !

Not newsworthy enough I guess.

What safe guards are in place TODAY?
Who is being prosecuted TODAY?
What is in the news about this issue, and those terrible people, TODAY?

Like Hillsborough, it takes at least 20 to 30 years to try to sort things out.
(It happened in 1989!)...and now " being sorted"

Justice is mighty slow in this country !

We are currently having a Royal Commission looking at child abuse and sexual abuse in institutions (family situations not included) and it is very wide ranging. It has looked at historical instances and is hunting down past and present abusers because anybody can come forward and testify. The Royal Commission does not prosecute but it does expose situations where abuse happens, how it gets covered up and recommends changes. It is up to the DPPs in each state to lay charges against individuals.

Anyone now who works with children, even in a voluntary capacity, must undergo a police check which must be updated every couple of years. I've had to do this even though I'm just a committee member for our church child care centre. People are much more aware that predators exist and may appear to be perfectly respectable.

What I want to see is the paedophile rings exposed and the participants gaoled. This will require the co-operation of police units from many countries and I think they are onto it now.

I have just seen a website which gives a list of the VIP guests visiting a London guest house where paedophiles abused children! One name stands out from the others, and if this is true, I am shocked beyond shocked. The person is a household name, whom I met in the early 70s at a beach party, and who was a guest of my parents in the early 80s. The other day I came across a postcard he had sent to one of our daughters who was a young child at the time. I looked this person up on Google to discover he is thought to have been one of the suspects investigated by 'Operation Yewtree' regarding the Jimmy Savile enquiry!

Listen to Lord Warner; current child commissioner for Birmingham.
there are ongoing investigations in special schools at the moment; among other places; but sadly; a lot of abuse is hidden within the home; now.

Sadly in the USA,Pedophiles are here to stay. There isnt enough punishment for their action to make these types go away permanetely anytime soon.

Sexual abuse of children has always gone on and no doubt will continue to do so. However I think it will be harder for the perpetrators to get away with it in future.

The difference today is, victims are being taken more seriously than they were 20-40 years ago, especially where 'high' profile people were being accused.

Attitudes with both the public and police have changed over the years which is a good thing and I believe in the coming months we will see a lot more 'high' profile people being charged.

Lets face it back in the 50's if a young woman accused someone of rape the public and possibly the police thought she had 'asked' for it, thankfully times and attitudes have changed and these days there is always a thorough investigation.

I think the current thinking or excuse is that once accusations of abuse start flying both the victim and the accused's reputation will be trashed. I don't agree other than by the time actual charges are filed hopefully it's a slam dunk and not a plea bargaining ploy.

We don't go in for plea bargaining much....
attitudes have changed so much in the last 40 years that people are coming forward who just weren't believed previously...and that includes Roman Catholics, and youngsters in different institutions, as well as individuals accusing different celebrities.

It has now reached politicians ....I think it is the power complex again.....

Some celebrities have been acquitted , which makes me think that at least some of these people are being truthful...at times I do wonder...

Has anybody seen or read 'House of Cards'?

Once we reach politicians, I can't help being reminded of that...and that is not meant as a flippant remark at all.

I can't imagine the mindset of a person that would sexually rape or abuse a young child. I'm not talking about teenagers, I mean toddlers and younger children. Are the men so insecure in their sexuality that they can't be with a woman, and must abuse a child? A lot of times the abusers themselves were raped as children.

When scout leaders, priests, etc. use their position of trust and leadership to lure a child into that position, it is so shameful. I feel so sorry for the babies and children who are victims, it turns my stomach when I hear of such stories in the news or on television. :(

They say rape is about power, not sex. So in the child rapist mind they get their power trip because they can control a child. What puzzles me is that most parents want a better life for the kids and/or to see them not experience some of the bad things in their life. Most people period don't want people to experience some of the crap they went through so why can't the abused abuser show restraint tward their urges?

Many of these people don't have the ability to restrain their "urges,"
which is why they're so dangerous!

Many of them are also unable to change, especially paedophiles.

They are like unrestrained mad hyenas.. only the hyenas are better!

Even gaol doesn't change them.
Of all the different categories of prisoner, they are the most resistant to rehabilitation efforts.

What happened to the idea of chaperones? When I was a leader for an outward bound youth club we always had to have a female leader for any hike or camp that involved girls. I took this duty very seriously and watched the girls very closely and noted if anyone appeared to be doing any grooming. At night I slept close to the girls and my sleeping bag was always closest to the tent opening. No-one went in or out without my awareness. Later my husband and I served as camp parents at Christian camps for country teenagers. It is not only girls who need protection from the predators.

It's one thing to punish paedophiles 40 years after the event but I think it is much better to obstruct their activities as much as is humanly possible to do so.

I wonder if their urges are simply a choice. THAT IS really SCARY especially when I hear stories of people advocating under age sex or trying to justify it especially when they know the laws and society's stand on it. Somethings are a given like rain is wet or blood is red. And child abusers should never be tolerated by society. They should know that by abusing children society is done with them forever.

They are pretty much incurable.

They should be chemically castrated ( already done in some places)

and they should have a prisoners "boot" put on,

so that the police can keep track of them at all times.

A lot of money to spend on the worst of humanity.. but the choice is either boot them
and keep an eye on them or give them the death penalty.

Death penalty sounds pretty good to me...however it won't be done
