Perfect Place to Live

Oaxaca, Mexico, was pretty perfect, 35 years ago. 27°C (80°F) almost year round, and not humid. Of course there were those daily earth tremors.

I've since learned that Oaxaca happens to be in a climate "sweet spot" that exists elsewhere as well. Any place within the tropics, at about 1500 meters (5000 feet) above sea level.

Others include the following:

Lake Chapala, Mexico
Cuernavaca, Mexico

Lake Atitlan, Guatemala
Antigua, Guatemala

Boquete, Panama
Medellin, Colombia
Vilcabamba, Ecuador
Cafayate, Argentina

Sagada, Luzon, Philippines
Banau, Luzon, Philippines
Baguio, Luzon, Philippines

Yercaud, Tamil, India
Da Lat, Vietnam
Awasa, Ethiopia

I once settled for this area when I really wanted to be back up north where my roots were. I soon realized that I was at least partially responsible for shaping my neighborhood. I'm thirty minutes from a major city and airport and on Tuesday there was a family of deer in my backyard by the creek. Can't ask for much more than that.

I am not looking for the perfect place, just some place warm and far away enough from D.C. that I can get out of the traffic. My closest Walmart is only about 4 miles away and yet, it takes me a half hour to get there and that's on a good day.

Seems like I land somewhere and like it a lot then after about a year I get the urge to move on cause I can nit pik every little thing wrong.

Now I moved here to Chatham, not by choice either and found plenty wrong here right from the start. Just checked the date and it was three years yesterday I landed in this home. Guess I should have celebrated yesterday....time flies.

All the work, inside and out.....hey this place is not so bad. I have my garden, the birds, good neighbors, a country setting with all the city 5 minutes away.

Perfect Place to Live

Where I am now is just about perfect, except when those young beggars further down the street play their crap music at a million decibels, and perhaps, when that biker goes past with that loud exhaust that sounds like a jumbo jet taking off, and maybe I get a bit irritated, when all the cats from a fifty mile radius choose to come into my garden and leave smelly presents for me between my plants. well, you all know me, I never complain do I? 😊

Some days where I live is perfect. Some days it is not. Depends on what I am going through at that time. Now when thinking back to past places I have lived in, of course many of those were perfect. I forget the not so perfect times in those places. And what is perfect for me probably is not perfect for someone else. Forget about perfect.

In the US ..... I don't think it exist ... jmo

Seems any place has it draw backs, either weather, social , or expence.

In the winter I have many times wished i would have moved to Fla, just after retirement in 2000 .... well now not so much.

My dad moved to Englewood/Grove City back in 1970 . I know it took a hit in Ian, but have never seen pics showing how bad. Of course he died in "93" so ....

That’s funny, but it’s not the car why it takes so long to go 4 miles. The traffic is so bad around the D.C. area, you’re lucky if you can make two lights without having to stop. Each light lasts almost 3 minutes.
Gary you are lucky with living in the wilderness. You probably never have to worry about traffic jams, except maybe to wait for a herd of Elk to pass by or a pack of wolves.
