After a really bad experience (personal safety) I was thinking of installing a safety app on my iPhone URSafe (subscription) that alerts Police, friends etc and also location etc, do any of you have such a thing on your iPhone, or Android?

I do not have an app. just one of those "I've fallen and I can't get up" buttons. It works throughout my building and into the parking lot. My Toyota has one of those Onstar type apps. but I let the intrductory subscription. I needed to use it to have someone fix a flat tire. There was a big to do because I did not have my cell phone on me for the fix it truck to call me. I sat there four hours going back and forth til someone finally came

I have not heard of this app; but I am totally in favor of anyone (especially us seniors) having some kind of an alert system to get help if something happens to us and we are alone or can’t get to help ourself.
Our insurance company has several varieties of the medical alerts, both wrist and neck medallions, and I think that it is a valuable benefit if a person does not have one.
I have an Apple Watch, which alerts if I fall and asks if I need help or not. Should I pass out and not be able to answer, it will automatically call 911 and also my emergency contacts.

I can also use it to call for help myself if something happens and I am alert but need help.
One day I was in the back yard and needed help, and I was able to use the Apple Watch phone to call my husband to come out back and rescue me.
It was nothing serious, but I do not know what I would have done if I didn’t have a way to contact him for help.

Between my Apple phone and watch, I’m satisfied with the alert factor. Like @Happyflowerlady, when I’ve had a tumble, Apple really really wants to alert the medics. They ask me once and when I reply that I’m ok, they ask again if I’m sure. Why would I want to pay for a subscription.

Not for medical alerts! One button and press, Alerts Police and Location (GPS automatically) and also three other contacts, won't go into the story, One Photo example. 4.00 AM when we were asleep.Different subject medical alert.

I see what you’re saying; a security issue. I’m not sure how bright I’d be at 4 a.m. and it would be so much easier to know I’d just have to push a button on my iPhone. I don’t see that app in Canada, but I sure can see the advantage of something like that.

I hope everyone is ok in your home.

Makes you alert when a rock comes through your window and you are splattered in bed with glass. Still dramatized of course but have each other and supportive friends, thanks for asking.

I have an alert pendant that I wear around my neck when I am home alone, and usually have my phone with me as well. In addition, my children and I have a system where I send them a group message, usually consisting of the word "Hi," at the same time every morning. (Sometimes it includes a real message as well.) If they don't get my message at the appointed time, they contact me. If no response, my son will come over and check things out here; he has a key to my condo. Hasn't happened yet.

It works well, and we've been doing it for years. The only slight problem is, if I will be unable to send the message at the usual time, such as while driving,or have a doctor's appointment, etc., I have to remember to send it in advance.

My phone is set to play an alarm at the appointed time every day to remind me.

I've used medical alerts, and I was one the floor twice and the damned thing never went off, plus they kept billing me for months after I threw it away. An iPhone works just as good as any medical alert button thing. If I'm unable to use my phone, I have Snug. If I don't check in by a certain time, they start calling me, then others. There must be other similar services.

i agree, it’s what prompted me to purchase an Apple watch

I hope you are ok. Anything to help safety is worth considering.

I did a test with my "help me I fell" gizmo today...pushed the
button on my wrist button and it sounded the alarm, voice came on and said we are taking your call, then I waited and waited and waited.....finnally started pushing the button repeatedly and got a phone call from the operator of this agency, they are supposed to answer me thru the units loudsspeaker, apparently they weree haveing Technical trouble...this was after 15mins or more of waiting....going
to keep an eye on this, because I've notice in the last year it
is taking them longer and longer to answer....I could get faster help on 911 than I got today......:(

Does the Apple watch have a medical alarm? I googled it, and they seem to keep talking about their "fitness" features, but says nothing about emergency alarm features. I've been thinking of getting one, and dropping the alarm system I currently have, as I would like to have a watch (my old watch died).

My mother is 87, lives alone and refuses to get any of the gadgets you've mentioned here! She doesn't even have a computer or a cell phone, a real 'dinosaur' when it comes to technology. Currently I'm pleading with her to get the cheapest cell phone on the cheapest plan and have the store set it up for her so that she can speed dial 911 but I think even that is falling on her deaf old ears. And it's not like she's poor! She's got a sizeable portfolio so she could afford something.

She's always been fiercely independent and protective of her autonomy and yet on this issue, she's making zero effort to protect herself and her independence. If something happens, she's doomed to lie there until some stranger notices a smell!

My late mother wouldn't wear her pendant ("too annoying"), so we got her one to wear on her wrist. She didn't like that, either, so she wore it on her ankle.

"Mom, if you fall down and break your hip, there's no way you're going to be able to reach your ankle!" She wasn't impressed with that statement, so her solution was not to wear it at all.

There was no arguing with a 95-year-old strong-willed lady. She did it "her way".

You're 100% right on not being able to 'argue' them over to common sense. That's something we should all be remembering as we complain about our own aging parents refusing to cooperate eh😉
