I stated playing this past spring with a 55+ town rec group. It's played with a wiffle ball and short hard racquet on a tennis court. Great exercise without the more punishing aspects of tennis. Serving is usually underhand, and usually played as doubles so you have a partner. Those of us who don't move to FL for winter will play outside as long as temp is about 40degrees. We're crazy.Played pickleball a few times and took to it pretty well. Anybody here play?
If you ever get a chance, you should try it. Were you ever a tennis player? Tennis players usually make a good transition even if it's been years.Good explanation, SeaRaven
Have never played, but it is good exercise... without being too strenuous![]()
The way I learned that pickleball existed was because my brother plays tennis (he's older than me and living in an over-55 community), and he was complaining that the pickleball people were taking over the tennis courts and in his opinion they should build their own courts. I guess this is one of the struggles of retirement, ha ha ha.played with a wiffle ball and short hard racquet on a tennis court

Learning the Pball rules and scoring take some time, but this age group is there for exercise, encouragement and socializing.![]()
All the best and good luck with the tournament! It will be a year March 29th since I started playing Pickleball. I will be participating in my first tournament April 1. My partner is 71 yr woman. We've been training hard the last 3 weeks and will continue until March 30th. I play everyday for 3 to 4 hours a day. I also drill at home on a small pickleball board I use as a training tool for specific shots for 30 minutes. Its given me a big boost sticking with drilling on this 3x4ft board. All of a sudden I am playing and holding my own and even winning with my skills. It takes work. Ive also lost some weight and best thing is manage my osteoarthritis and hardly have the painful issues like before.
I do stretch and condition so I dont pull or tear any muscles. There is always a risk so you must go easy and stretch well before playing.
So its all good for now.
Its one way to keep in shape be social and in general be happier. Try it you may enjoy it.
