Pictures From My Smart Bird Feeder

Our first chickadee! :) We got two pictures of him, before and after husband filled the feeder this morning.

And one of Lady Cardinal looking forlornly at the empty feeder.

Oh you got your first chickadee. How sweet.
Now that he/she knows the food is there, I think you’ll see him/her there often.
It’s probably thinking “Looked at all this food!”
There’s your pretty cardinal waiting patiently for a refill.

We finally got some shots of Mr. Cardinal. He's looking so sharp in his flaming red. :) And the chickadee came back.

He’s a handsome fella. I wasn’t expecting any pictures today knowing you arent feeling too well. I hope you aren’t feeling obligated to show us pictures of your birds.
The sweet little chickadee. They are so tame that they will eat seeds right off your hand if you are patient enough to wait. Of course winter isn’t the time to test it out. B-b-b-r-r!

Thank you for showing us pictures from your birdie videos. It’s always a pleasure.

He is a sweet little thing! :)

I don't feel obligated at all! It's fun to share these with you guys. I was so excited to see the chickadee and Mr. Cardinal today and wanted to show you guys. And since I am ill and just sitting in be with my laptop, I've got more time to check the camera app and see whose around. 🤗

Aw, I would feel so special to have a chickadee eating from my palm.

I know! I was happy when husband refilled the feeder and surprised to see her flashy mate. Is it me or is his color deepening?
It could very well be that his colours are deepening. I think the female cardinals colours are deepening too. You are feeding them food with red pepper in it so it wouldn’t be surprising that it shows in the skin and feather. Pink flamingos get their pink colouring from the shrimp they eat. Maybe this is the same thing.

Oh, yes, I can see how that might happen! When my elder son was a baby, he didn't like green veggies and so ate a lot of carrots, sweet potatoes and squash, and turned a bit orange from the beta-carotene. 🤣 The doctor advised sneaking a bit of green mixed in with the orange, which I did.

I like to think of Lord and Lady Cardinal coming into bright colors because we're helping them along. 🤗

Feeding your son ample foods with beta carotene in them is a perfect example of how food affects our colouration.

All the birds you are feeding will look better due to the help of you guys. You are feeding the birds top quality food. It’s no wonder you have so many birds visiting your feeders.

Perhaps it was because they had a job to do!

They both moved snow off of the dish, till they could get to the delicious, nutritious seeds, that they knew were underneath.

They're so strong and capable, and are an excellent example of cooperation . (y)

I feel uplifted by seeing them, and I thought that some of you would enjoy seeing them too.

Well, our family has finally emerged from the plague that was stalking our house for a freaking month and we've cleaned up and refilled the feeder. :)

AND... we were blessed by nature with a special visitor! I've been waiting for him and hoping he'd show up! When I saw these videos, I hurried outside to refill the suet feeder as well. :)

Here's a still of him. He's so very pretty.

And one more from a different angle. From the video record, it looks like he was at the feeder a couple times today. :)
Boyfriend looked him up for me; it seems he's a Downey Woodpecker.

In other news, we hung a finch feeder just a foot or so in front of the regular feeder, still in camera range. We're hoping to attract some gold finches with this one.

Nice to see it's busy at the feeder, still. :)

Yes that’s a downy woodpecker. The bigger versions of these are called hairy woodpeckers. They like sunflower seeds but love suet and peanuts.

I like your finch feeder. Do you have black thistle seeds in there?

Does the squirrel still try and eat the seeds or is he gone for good?

Yes, black thistle. :) Happily, we haven't seen any squirrels in a while; the hot seed seems to be doing the trick.

Mr. Woodpecker brought his mate to the feeder!

Looking at this video, I'm wondering now if the picture above, of the woodpecker from head-on view, isn't her as well.

Nice view of her from the back. Husband pointed out that her markings are different as well as the lack of the red crest. This is so fun. :)

Now you have a cardinal couple and a downy woodpecker couple. How sweet. I wonder how many finch couples you have? Their gender isn’t as apparent. I hope the cardinals will be back.
