Pictures From My Smart Bird Feeder

Those finches are beautiful Medusa.
That was quite the fight those two got into.
Thanks for showing us. Looks like the finches like the sunflower seed more than the thistle seeds. That’s interesting.
I agree. They do go to the finch feeder, but not nearly as much as the sunflower feeder. We are hoping the finch feeder will attract some gold finches.

I don't know where our cardinals and woodpeckers have gone. :/

I had to jump on and post because I'm so charmed by this brave little finch standing his ground against a starling this morning.

Lady Cardinal stopped by.

And Mr. Cardinal, apparently annoyed at something or someone.

Mr. Cardinal at a different time of the morning, still mad. Maybe he's not a morning bird. I get that.

Pretty picture of the back of a red finch.

The starlings have eaten all the food this morning. I've read that they do not like safflower seeds so I'm looking into a safflower hot mix from Amazon. Husband is sweet and feels like, "Well, they're birds too and we're feeding the birds." I get that but they're chasing the little birds away and this seed is expensive. He was thinking of maybe putting some food for them on the other side of the yard, which is a nice idea.
That male cardinal who looked like he was annoyed by someone or something.....
wasn't annoyed at all. 😉😊😆

That is exactly how they roll each individual seed around in their mouth, to prep it for swallowing, Or to reject and spit it out.
That's how they pare/peel the hard shell off the black oiled sunflower seed.
I find it fascinating to watch them do that.

No woodpeckers today, but I did get a shot of Mr. Cardinal. :) Haven't seen him or his mate in a while so I was glad for the sight of him. It's a bit blurry because it's wet and rainy here and the picture was taken before I'd cleaned off the lens and refilled the feeder.

And our little junco friend is back! I haven't seen him in a while either.

I just thought he looked pretty in the sun. :)

Madam, please. :/ She is kind of sweet though, really.

Just a nice angle.

Oh, look at that! Sweet little guys. 🤗

Thank you for sharing this and also for your info on how cardinals peel their sunflowers. That was a cool share.
It's funny how all of us humans do unlimited projection. 😉

That male cardinal did appear to have a scowl on his face,
So we easily assume he's grumpy or aggravated.
😁

Sort of how a crocodile with its mouth wide open, appears to be smiling and happy....
So we might assume he's friendly.
😄

Except we have more knowledge about him. 😊☺️

Well, even now armed with the knowledge you've shared... I maintain he was grouchy. 😂

Lady cardinal is back! :) (I think there's a way to improve the picture quality by changing to HD, but I keep forgetting about it. :/ )

Another of those birdie disagreements that I find so amusing. 😂

This explains why the food ran out so quickly today. :/ There were several pictures of these guys.

Beautiful pictures Medusa. I love the variety of birds you get. I’m surprised to see the squabble between the sparrow and the chickadee. Chickadees don’t usually clash with any birds. When at our feeders, they’d take one seed and fly away. Once they finished cracking open the shell, they eat the seed then come back for another. I think they used to stash seeds in their own little hiding spots.

I think that's actually two sparrows, which would explain the argument as I've seen them at it before. Though I've also seen them feeding each other, which is sweet. :) Maybe this was an attempted feeding?

Perfect descriptions of the chickadee behaviors!👍😎
They always have done that at our feeders, too.

But, Unless you are looking at a different photo than i am ....🤔

It looks to me like that one , who is squabbling, is not a chickadee.
I think it looks like a chickadee because it's turned at an angle, so only part of it is viewable.

And so it's likely 2 sparrows who disagree, there, rather than a polite well-mannered chickadee, being drawn into the fray.
😊😁😄🥰🥰

I might be all wrong, though. 🙂

Oh you’re right. It isn’t a chickadee. My mistake. Maybe it’s an attempted feeding? lol!
That’s cute. Do you get any birds feeding off the ground? Or do the seeds not make it to the ground? We used to always have one bird who was too lazy to crack the shell and would toss seeds out onto the ground so we’d have lots of ground seeds. Luckily we had a lot of ground feeders to clean it up.

No you are right. I had just taken a quick look but looking back they ARE both sparrows. My bad. lol 😂 We had a lot of chickadees when we fed the birds. I love their sweet bird songs they have. They’d tell us off when the feeders were empty and were always the first to visit the feeders when they were full. I swear they’d say ‘thank you.’😁

A lot of seed seems to make it to the ground when we are cleaning and refilling so we do get a good amount of "foot" traffic as well. :)
