Plastic On The Furniture

Who remembers plastic on the furniture. And plastic runners on the rug too!

OMG, I grew up with plastic in the living room. No one could eat or drink in there.

No .. however, I had friends who weren't allowed in their living rooms, who had the plastic covered sofas.

My grandparents had plastic on their couches. I can still feel/hear my shorts-clad legs peeling off it.

They were just awful. My mother refused to visit anyone who did this to their furniture.

We never did but I know those people.

When I was starting out, I had old battered hand me down upholstered furniture that I covered with inexpensive throws and comforters.

When I became a bit more successful, I had brand new upholstered furniture covered with inexpensive throws and comforters that were only removed for special events and holidays.

Now, I laugh at myself for wasting money on new upholstered furniture.

Never on the furniture, but my grandfather did have clear plastic installed over the seats of his cars.

My grandparents had those and the plastic floor runners. Plus my aunt had the red, green and blue plastic cover that went on the TV to simulate color tv.

We never did growing up. But my parents were friends with a couple who we’d go visit from time to time when I was quite young. There was plastic on the couches, plastic runners on the rugs, even plastic on the lampshades!

I embarrassed my parents terribly when I asked out loud when they were going to unwrap their presents.

My in-laws don't have the plastic and won't let anyone IN the living room. All that's missing is the velvet ropes.

I can‘t even tolerate leather on furniture. I would rather sit on a folding lawn chair than on plastic!

Grandmother tried it and it lasted 2-3 days and she gave the covers away.

No plastic. At times, we had cloth throws coordinated to match the fabric on the sofa, and I still have a throw on my reclliner. I cover just the driver's seat of my car with a sheet, tucked in at the back and sides. The sheet is gray and almost matches the gray upholstery.

I bought a whole set at Walmart that covers everything.

I once bought plastic fake leather from Temu to stick on holes my rabbits ate in the couch, but this? Never seen that.

We had that when we lived in Puerto Rico in the late 1960's. At the time it worked really good since our sons were very young & had no problem making a mess. Sons were older when we moved back to the states no plastic covering.

I wonder how fireproof that stuff was. Those were the days of falling asleep with a lit cigarette in your hand.

When we first moved to Florida, we had landlords who I would sometimes deliver the checks to instead of mailing them.

They were an elderly couple who had EVERYTHING in their house covered in plastic...furniture, lampshades, the dining room table had a lovely lace tablecloth on it covered by a clear plastic tablecloth. The dining room chair seats were covered with plastic.

The carpeting was criss-crossed with plastic runners....you could move entirely through the house without ever stepping on carpet.

The heavy curtains over all the windows were never drawn because y'know the sun might fade something.

I'll bet when they shuffled off, everything in that house looked the same as the day they bought it.
