Plastic packaging gets me down

This has probably been mentioned before but I have to vent, as it were....

So, I had to go out and buy a new remote for the TV. When I got home there was a problem. See, the remote was packaged in some kind of plastic cocoon. I mean, I sat there staring at this package trying to figure out how to open the thing. No tabs to pull as it was sealed completely...... Like it was some sort of secret device that could only be opened with dynamite. I didn't have dynamite. So I continued my search for some area on the package where it could be opened. Tried finding SOMEPLACE around the package to get at the remote.

Finally, I decided to get a knife to try to open the thing. After much prying, stabbing and, I hate to admit it some cursing, the only thing I had accomplished was to stab myself.

OK, so I had to call Sue. After showing her what I had to face, the problem I was having and showing her my injury, she took the plastic encased remote, ripped up a corner of the plastic and removed the remote....Which she handed to me with a sigh....

She also handed me a bandaid. For some reason she always comes prepared whenever I get near a knife.

You have to have one of those heavy-duty shears to open those things. They're available on those home-shopping places or "Home Depot" type stores. A pair of titanium scissors will work but it might break the scissors. Knife isn't a good idea.

Wrap rage is a common problem, best wait for Sue or another adult to help you open your packages. :):playful::eek:nthego:

Lay the package on a solid surface that can stand a blade. Use a crate knife/retractable razor knife to slice near the edges. Keep your non-cutting hand out of the way, and slice away from your body. It's very easy, once you get the hang of it, although thousands of people, who didn't do so, end up in emergency rooms, every year.

i think they wrap things up so it is hard to open---and then if it doesnt work you take it back to the store and they refuse to take it back because the package has been destroyed

I googled that Zipit gadget just to see if it really exists. It does, it's even available on Amazon, but I think pretty pricey for what it is.

A few days ago, I bought a pair of matching bedside lamps from Lamps Plus. They looked pretty and were a good price. Yesterday, I received a carton. However.....

1. The cardbox carton looked like an elephant had stamped on it. Badly damaged, large hole in one side, stryfoam packaging material oozing out.

2. Lamp was surrounded by miscellaneous bits of cardboard and whatever styrofoam was still inside the box. The styrofoam was jammed tightly inside, had to be forcibly pulled out, which resulted in its breaking into a million tiny pieces which were apparently magnetized and stuck to my hands, my clothing, and the carpet.

3. When I finally got down to the lamp, it was firmly adhered to the inside of the box by very strong packing tape. Had to be cut away.

4.Miraculously, the lamp was unharmed. However....

5. There was only ONE lamp! I had paid for two, of course. I called Lamps Plus, got a very polite, apologetic lady, who told me that the second lamp was scheduled for delivery the next day. (That's today.) Whaaa?

So far, I like the lamp, but the packaging and delivery were so bad that I will give them a bad review. I would never buy from them again.

Heavy plastic packaging is to deter theft, and unfortunately consumers suffer. I apply a box cutter/utility knife carefully to the packaging, trying not to damage the item or myself...

I hate this too, problem has gotten worse.
They did a funny bit on the King of Queens TV show once.

Also very tall containers unstable that do not fit on my shelves.

I think they are making it childproof tampering.
