Please, does anyone else lose all hope?

I think it helps to avoid the news.
I did not used to be that way. I even have a degree in Journalism (which is worth about $5.00, I believe). But so many parts of the globe are going insane, the rich are winning, clearly winning, and the middle class and poor are being crushed. And so it goes.

Some people find peace in thinking about the afterlife. I don't find much comfort in that because I will die and I'll leave my kids behind and they will have to cope with the world's evil next. I give them lots of warnings when I can. When I think I know what the rich are going to do next, I try to warn them because surely, no one but the Almighty warned me. I try to warn my friends too.

And we can't trust major media to warn us because, golly gee, their most prominent faces and voices are wealthy too!

But I'm tellin' ya, the War on the Poor has become so naked and obvious in the past 15 to 20 years and for that, I am grateful. The alternate source of news, which is the Internet, has exposed that. NOW the rich will try to cover up their evil deeds again with A.I.

I guess the poor will have to revert to paper newspapers after the rich let A.I. write every online story.
I was preoccupied with the news during a recent presidency, living on tenterhooks throughout those years, obsessively worrying what shenanigans had occurred that day. Being run by so much fear, anger and frustration was damaging me in a soul-deep way, crowding out my usual joie de vivre.

My solution was to stop going on Facebook, quit reading the news every morning, and avoid political discussions - even with my husband and others whose points of view closely aligned with my own. When someone starts up on it, I gently say that beyond voting these issues are out of my control so discussing them only serves to make me crazy. If they persist with "I just want to say this one thing," I interrupt them saying that I'm respectfully requesting that we change the subject because the topic distresses me.

I'm not saying you're wrong on anything you wrote, only that fixing this is a bigger issue than you or I can manage. There will have to be a sea change in the general population's perceptions and according to the polls, we're not anywhere near that yet.

p.s. I support journalism by PAYING for subscriptions to numerous newspapers and resources. The only way to have a free press and investigative journalism is to support it with dollars.

p.p.s. One of my sons has a degree in journalism and is doing quite well with it, so perhaps your degree is more valuable than you imagine.

@gracy225 , perhaps the hockey players death elevates your concern for your son. I get that, every time I hear about a motorcyclist fatality I feel anxiety for my son's well-being. It's what a parent does.
But try not to engage in 'overthinking', worrying about the future ruins enjoyment of the present.
Nathan - I'm going to steal the last part of your entry. "Try not to engage in "overthinking", worrying about the future ruins enjoyment of the present. In fact, I've put it up on my wall.

Deaths in media? No, it has zero effect on me. They're all abstract "famous" people I could never relate to or truly know.

But in life? Sure. I am no-one. I have no ultimate value. The vast majority won't know I've ever lived. It's just a fact. I don't matter, and I have no individual significance. It's just how it is.

I don’t lose hope, what is there to hope for? If you have your eyes on heavenly rewards as told in the Bible, you can disregard that bit superstition and rest assured you will be In the company dead based on your stasis of life.

I don't trust the mainstream media for a long time and never watch the news on the state-controlled TV stations. All they produce is propaganda and blatant lies.

I briefly considered offing myself at age 11, due to a constantly abusive dad, but
didn't consider it seriously because of there being so many good reasons to keep living.
I decided that as long as there was at least one reason to keep living, then that was enough.

"Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield." - - - Ulysses by Alfred, Lord Tennyson

No
As a Christian, I know this temporal life is but a moment
.......no matter what happens

Gotta admire your unwavering faith.

Anyone dying other than a family member or a pet or a close friend does not distress me at all. If you really feel like there is no hope, please talk to your doctor for a referral to a counselor. Yes, I believe in God and Jesus too and there is comfort there, however sometimes you need a real person that you can discuss things with.

It is impossible to pull ourselves up by our "spiritual bootstraps"! God's phone number is Jer - 33:3 : "Call on Me and I will answer you."

One of my favorite quotes from Johnny Cash is "My arms are too short to box with God!"

"My Hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' Blood and Righteousness!"🎶

I'm living in Germany. Our major broadcasting corporations are all under the control of the government. Simply for the reason the politicians are members of the broadcasting commissions. You'll never get any information or news that is unfavorable for the government.
Ah. Helpful to know for context. Is there a reason you don't show "Germany" on your profile?

I didn't know that about the government controlling major broadcasting companies. The freedom of the Internet must feel very thwarting to their intentions of blowing sunshine up their residents' skirts.

Beautiful, and oh, so true. Thanks for sharing that with us - I'd never seen that before.

The beloved hockey player, Adam Johnson, who suffered a horrid death a few days ago, has sent me spinning to a downward spiral. With all the deaths currently and all the mayhem, this instance was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I don't know why; maybe something to do with my son playing hockey? Or maybe (if I'm honest, more accurately) it's something to do with yet another incomprehensive loss of life. I have to get out of this hole; I have MS (of course, the worst type) and that depresses me enough.
I understand, I took am so very anxious. It is today's world where we are fed bad news all the time.

I think as I created my account on Senior Forums I've mentioned that I am from Germany. But some months later a (male) member of the forum insulted me heavily with a public comment (not via PM). That hurt, much more, as both of us participated in a Zoom chat of another (female) member. I deleted all personal information on my account and left the forum. Months later I came back but didn't update my account information. Both members in the meantime obviously left the forum. I don't know what happened to them. As much as I miss the lady, I'm more than happy that the man isn't here anymore.

Stop reading or watching the news.
Life is difficult enough without listening to stuff we can’t do anything about anyway.
I refuse to watch or read the news. Most news I learn is from the titles here at this site. I wouldn’t know there’s a war going on if it wasn’t for this site.

You have more value than you think. Your presence is important here on earth. Just think about all the people you have met in your life. How many you have helped directly and indirectly through your words and actions.

Quite right, I do try to avoid news. It's just I feel obligated to know at least the basic headlines.
Then I watch more and find myself anxious.
I feel way better reading my books and watching nice programmes on TV. It takes effort and discipline to avoid focussing on bad news.

Sure! It takes effort to avoid bad news but it’s a proven fact that avoiding it is better for your health.
