I will pass this one to my family and friends. It is so easy to lock our car doors with the fob. So, it is a good idea to turn off the engine, lock the car and then, take off the piece of paper or better, to wait until you have driven away and in a safer place. Or if the paper is not blocking your vision, to wait until you get home. It just shows that we have to be alert at all times. Thanks for the warning.

Actually you should notice the paper when you're approaching the car, BEFORE you even get in. Sadly, many will be digging for their keys, playing with their phone or just in a daze.

I wonder, though, since this "warning" seems to be similar to so many other Internet "warnings" if it ever really happened? Snopes has it that it's false, since this has been around since 2004 and no one seems to have ever heard of one these taking place.

Interesting. Snopes is pretty reliable. I am wondering now, because of the simplicity why it has not been done. Hope it does not take off!

Oh, me too.

*runs outside with crayon-scrawled note and Scotch tape to the hot red Corvette up the street*

Sometimes I wonder, though - who Snopes Snopes?

I always have to lead you around by hand! Just go to Snopes and ask who snopes snopes. I would do it but I feel it is best at your age to keep you busy so you don't just stay in your easy chair all day!

Behold, as a wild ass in the desert, go I forth to my work ...

And wild asses are notorious for getting lost.

I asked but they didn't tell me - just that they aren't sponsored by anyone and that they list their sources. That hardly qualifies as an answer on their part, I think ...
