What is a podcast, and what is the purpose for them ?

How do i 'listen' ? to one should I decide to ?

A podcast is a vocal (or aural) recording without visuals.

Try listening to it in your browser; if that doesn't work, search the web for some other program to use.

Personally, I'm not crazy about podcasts. I want to see visuals which can illuminate what's being discussed (or show the person talking, which makes it easier to discern what's being said).

Otherwise, it's just (seemingly, to me) endless talking without anything to watch. I generally skip podcasts altogether — but the choice is up to any of us personally.

Well OK, having read that ..... I think I'll look for one just to see [hear] it. But doesn't sound all that great too me either.

Thanks.

Sure, @rgp. Try clicking on the podcast link to see whether your browser opens it ... or accesses some other program on your computer to open it.

I rather like podcasts, and have gotten into them. They vary greatly in quality, and tend to be driven by specialized interests. Some, for example, focus on entertainment, others on politics, lifestyle, science, religion, metaphysics, you name it! I gravitate towards paranormal podcasts because I like strange, off-beat topics... 👻🧛‍♂️🧟‍♂️👽🙀

Podcasts lack visuals, but are great to listen to when you’re too tired to read or watch video content. I tend to listen in bed prior to sleeping when my eyes are tired but my mind still wants stimulation. If you like audiobooks, you’ll probably like podcasts. Some are rambling conversations while others are finely tuned with guests and specific topics, essentially a canned radio talk show. Some are quality productions, others are not, dependent on the producer.

Most podcasts are free, and can conveniently be accessed on line or through specialized apps in app stores that gather large numbers of them together for you to search and select. Paid services like Amazon’s Audible or Sirius Radio include a goodly number under their subscription umbrella.

And guess what? You can even produce your own podcast for free through a service like Anchor that also allows you to listen to podcasts. Who knows, you might be the next cultural icon! 😸

Go to thehistorychicks.com for an amazing podcast about famous or interesting women down through the centuries. The stories are told in a folksy, humorous manner, and are fascinating. The most recent one that I listened to was the one about Typhoid Mary. What a story!

You can get it on your computer, phone, Alexa, etc.

Do you have a cell phone. There’ll be an app in their Store. My phone is my favourite device to listen on.

Most of the podcasts are free. I have several favourites. Out of the 800,000 available there’s something for everybody.

Think of it as a radio show.

I recommend ‘What’s the Problem with Nick and Carol?’.
An hour or so of fun.All sorts of podcasts out there on a variety of topics.

My videos are like podcasts with video. You can view them if you like on YouTube at The Fortuna Report. I should be working on them instead of playing here. LOL
