Pokemon Go, the app

I have ask, 'Has anyone here got into the 'Pokemon Go' craze?' I will admit I had been watching all the hype wondering, what is the obsessive interest about? I found a site that gave me a humorous synopsis of the game. I can't believe that it has swept the massive amount of players it has. In my opinion, there is no disbelief on my part. I have said that most people are mindless followers, if you don't believe me look at our candidates for President! Back to the game, I have never been a game player, did play solitaire, tetris, pipe dream & currently play an occasional game of Freecell & Mahjong, that's it.

But this game is unbelievable in the interest it has generated. My wife pointed out after I explained the game to her that at least it's got people out walking around. There has been several incidents of car wrecks, pedestrian hits, I'm sure many players have bumped into unforgiving obstacles such as trees & posts. There is also a positive side, people discovering abandoned animals, dead bodies,,,etc. But to me it's a stupid waste of a mind so the ad goes. It amazes me how enamored a whole population of robots are running to locations to 'capture; their quest.

Was reading an article about the advertisers lining up to buy spots on the game, it has generated sales that otherwise would go unnoticed except that it's tied to the game. There's that little devil, oh by the way I'll have one of those donuts. I can only shake my head in disbelief. It reminds me of the Italian parable of the farmer who was failing with his farm, so he went to a fortune teller to help him. The teller handed him a box with the instructions to go out on his farm and place the box at different locations for a few days each. Soon it became apparent he was fixing problems with his irrigation, fences & other things about his farm, the box got him out on the farm & his natural skills improved his processes making him a successful farmer in the end. Maybe 'P Go' will make us better world citizens.

I've been hearing a lot about it, too. Seems kind of silly to me. I've also heard a lot about people barging around in inappropriate places, like the National Holocaust Museum. I think people would be better off living in the moment and enjoying the world around them, rather than with their head down and their nose stuck in their phone.

haha! My son is playing with his children and the kids are very eager to go outside more often then they used too and they don't complain so much any more :)

Interesting, I frequent MSN.com & GoogleNews.com daily. I searched both sites for the phrase 'pokemon go' & found it was all over google, but only one reference (hit) on MSN (the was the highlight of the shooting in Fla of the pokemon trainers). MS has no vested interest in pokemon go but since it's an android app google is making millions from the advertisers.

I could name the first hundred Pokémon when the card game came out. I had three kids playing it at the same time, I had to...but the card game required strategy...this version? I don't know. True story-I left a meeting tonight and an older woman walked with me for a bit and we talked. she said " Look at that" and showed me her phone screen. yup she caught a Pokémon on the corner. Like she said, maybe when the kids catch on that oldsters are playing too they'll move on to something else.

Talking with my g-daughter the other day, she was telling me about her brother, who is on his last year in college striving for an engineering degree. Studious, serious & an introvert. He always did like the online role playing games, I guess his only way to express himself without exposing his feelings. Someone with more understanding than I can answer that. Anyway he has played the game for awhile now & has joined with other players, getting new friends & glory be! He has started dating a few of the female players, going out to eat, shows. Becoming a real social butterfly. I guess it's a positive thing for him. It's a heck of a lot better than hanging out on the street corner.

If us oldsters start playing it and walking along the street at the same time like the kids do, we are likely to fall and break ourselves. It's such a good idea.

I knew my days of being a techie/geek nerd were over the day I had to look up Pokemon Go on Wikipedia. I like playing computer games but not out on the street.

The only computer game I ever liked was Frogger - trying to get the frog across the road without it getting run over. They all seem like a huge waste of time to me.
