Poly Talk

Ever heard 0f "Double Talk"?

Here's a candidate we may have running, with a list of accomplishments:

Meet Hillary>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Quote of the day, no, of the week, make that a month. Yet it probably is quote of the year! No, DECADE. Wait a minute. It's the greatest quote ever !

“My accomplishments as Secretary of State? Well, I'm glad you asked! My proudest accomplishment in which I take the most pride, mostly because of the opposition it faced early on, you know… the remnants of prior situations and mind sets that were too narrowly focused in a manner whereby they may have overlooked the bigger picture and we didn’t do that and I’m proud of that. Very proud. I would say that’s a major accomplishment.”

- Hillary Clinton 11 March 2014
Could someone please tell me what the hell she just said? And she may be running for President?

I would call the example in the OP bafflegab.

Much more serious is the use of weasel words.

A weasel word (also, anonymous authority) is an informal term for words and phrases aimed at creating an impression that a specific and/or meaningful statement has been made, when only a vague or ambiguous claim has been communicated, enabling the specific meaning to be denied if the statement is challenged.

Weasel words can lead to "plausible deniability".

By the way, I belatedly thought to process the original quote through Snopes.

Sorry but it is FALSE.

Oh my goodness, I read that twice and never did see the "accomplishment" anywhere in all those words . I've never seen anything that confusing since Lyndon Johnson. He could talk for hours and never say anything..

What's disturbing is people buying this as something that actually came out of a possible presidential candidate's mouth, for that matter anyone's mouth, without one bit of source information. :crying:

You DO know that this is a hoax and was disproven? NO??

I typed in the word "poly" and this is the thread that came up. I didn't know nor was I concerned that the thread was two years old. Now, Like you, I'm amazed too. I was especially amazed that the term "poly" was referred to as Double Talk rather than it's current, more formal reference to the numbers of adults in The Same Relationship.

The term 'poly', as used here, is taken from 'poly-sci' which is the slang term for political science study or major.
Which means it shouldn't be in this board.
