Porn In A Public Library

shame you needed to stoop to a personal comment because I disagreed with you. :(

Movie theatres, DVD stores etc take on the parenting role too - they have to adhere to classifications about who can borrow or go i n to watch what.
that's what the classifications are for.

I am glad that such applies to libraries too in Australia.

I disagree.

Libraries should follow the required classifications same as anywhere else; stores, movie theatres etc.

If a minor can't borrow a Restricted move from a store why should they be able to borrow one from a library?
Suggesting libraries are at fault for corrupting children by not restricting access to MA or R videos is like blaming passersby for not dousing raging infernos with their water bottles.

Kids looking for porn or violent movies have all that content immediately available at their fingertips. For free. Whenever they want it.

They're not going to bother wandering the aisles of a public library, or checking out a DVD their parents might come across.

p.s. Underage kids can easily get into R or MA movies. Even if a theater won't buy them that movie's ticket, they simply purchase a ticket to a different movie in the same multiplex, get past the person checking tickets, and then go into whatever movie they choose.

I dont think it is that easy for them to get into restricted movies here. Might be different in your country.

and I am glad libraries and stores do follow classifications here

conversation seems to be going in circles now.

Not sure where "here" is ...? (You haven't specified in your profile.)

I’ve seen computers in libraries with privacy screens, but even then, some stuff just doesn’t belong in a public space where kids and families are around. There should be better filters.

American libraries do the best they can with filters. They must consider their primary objective (free flow of information) while being responsible about filtering out content that's illegal, particularly ghastly, or intended to appeal to prurient interests.

My library's computers are toward the back of the building and the children and young adult sections are located near the front door.

It's not only 'porn', even Shakespeare is questioned today, especially in the U.S.
And this not regarding minors but adult students at universities.

"A growing number of America’s ‘woke’ academics have refused to teach Shakespeare in schools, arguing that he promotes sexism, racism, white supremacy and intolerance. Yale University students petitioned the college to “decolonise” and drop Shakespeare as a requirement in 2016."

Dear Americans, what is wrong with you?

I remember that movie, Peter O’Toole, Helen Mirren, impressive cast.

For me it was porn, for others it might be art. 🤔

Report any offensive material and let it go, you’ve done your job.

I agree with @Trade, if kids want to see porn they can watch it on their phones right at the breakfast table or in math class.

Same here. The Dude talks too funny. Can't understand half of what he is saying.
You and StarSong have valid reasons, why Shakespeare isn't "in" anymore (if he was at all).

But the arguments of scholars that students of English language could be shocked by his alleged racism, misogyny and whatsoever are strange.

Valid point, @George1959. He was, as are we all, a product of his time. Being only passingly familiar with Shakespeare's works, I couldn't say if he was racist or misogynistic. However, if I came across those attitudes in his writings, I'd dismiss them as era-related rather than passing judgment on Shakespeare's character.

Cancel culture is big on throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

Final thought: Students and politicians should not be mandating what universities teach. If students find the course materials distasteful they can "vote" by not enrolling in the class. Politicians should stay in their own lanes.

These days the inmates appear to be running the asylums.

I agree as long as the students are using their own money and not relying on the public purse to fund their education.

IMO if you want my money you need to be willing to play by my rules.
