Guantanamera ~ Pete Seeger

(Song of the Cuban Revolution)

Originally a romantic or topical tune where Fernández improvised daily events, it became linked with the Cuban Revolution (1959) by incorporating the patriotic poetry of José Martí, specifically adapted by composer Julián Orbón

It was the song that the Castro led Rebels sang in the fight against unpopular leader Fulgencio Batista.
Castro's purpurpose to overthrow Batista to end his brutal dictatorship, rampant government corruption, and deep-seated economic inequality in Cuba.

  • The Spanish folk song that became an iconic anthem during the Mexican Revolution (1910–1920).
Pancho Villa quote: My sole ambition is to rid Mexico of the class...

It was said that the song was one that supporters of Pancho Villa's Rebel s sang in the fight against their unpopular and (again) dictatorial government
* being the name given to Villa as they deemed him to crawl under any/all rocks to avoid their efforts to capture him

The Mexican Revolution was a period of great political upheaval, during which the majority of the stanzas known today were written. Political symbolism was a common theme in those verses, and explicit and implicit references were made to events

--- Villa was the guerrilla leader who was a key figure in the Mexican Revolution, which forced out President and dictator Porfirio Díaz and brought Francisco I. Madero to power in 1911.
--- When Madero was ousted by a coup led by General Victoriano Huerta in February 1913, Villa joined the anti-Huerta forces in the Constitutionalist Army led by Venustiano Carranza. - After the defeat and exile of Huerta in July 1914, Villa broke with Carranza.

Villa dominated the meeting of revolutionary generals that excluded Carranza and helped create a coalition government.
- Emiliano Zapata and Villa became formal allies in this period

Looking back in time, I don't really have a favorite War or Anti-War Song.

Since I participated in 2 Wars, (3 if you count the 21 years I spent involved in the 'Cold War'),
I can somewhat understand both sides of the coin.

I've tried to judge songs on how they are structured and if they are a true feeling or just what is 'popular' to put
on the market, for profit.

So far, most of the songs listed I enjoy listening to, no matter the content...

I tried to find music in a wide variety as every nation, tribe have had wars and ways to prepare for them.
Every country/tribe has had to boost up morale or had a defeat. We all provide music to document
the feelings in songs.
