Are there any unwritten rules of etiquette when posting?

If so what would they be?

What style of posting do you like the most?

What style of posting do you like the least?

Is leaving feedback important to you? ( as in reward points or is a thank you good enough?

For me...I don't mind about too much of anything, as long as people if they're making a long post remember to make paragraphs otherwise it's hard to read...also I'm still surprised that so many posters after all these years on many forums don't realise that posting in Capitals is bad netiquette due to being construed as shouting or anger !!

I think if anything annoys me it's personal attacks. Attack the post if you disagree with it, but attacking the author or poster is stupid and unnecessary..and says more about the attacker than the victim.

Paragraphs to me are important. I need white space between blocks of text. The longer the solid block of text is, the less I'll be apt to read it.

Thank you's are not necessary with me, but are nice to get if anyone is so inclined.

It's nice of you to ask, Keesha.

I agree with RadishRose about paragraphing. If there are large chunks of text, it really discourages me from trying to read it.

Other than that, anything that doesn't set my hair of fire is okay. But a little bit of controversy is always interesting. :)

Yep, to every word of that.

I usually only open threads if the subject interests me, and I feel I can add something to the conversation or learn something from it. If there's so much heat that my hair feels warmish, there are plenty of others to look into. :eek:nthego:

Correct grammar, punctuation, and syntax are mandatory. It's too burdensome to read text that is ungrammatical or improperly punctuated. For example, please proof and correct your correct your second line. You'll need to rewrite your last line.

I suggest the following reference on usage.

I agree with that, Big Horn. But the best of grammar ain't going to make something boring interesting. :)

Proof reading helps, too

I couldn’t care less about spelling or grammar, as long as the content is interesting or amusing, and never read long drawn out posts

I put personal attacks and criticism down to ignorance and don’t get involved

The following is just my opine
Not even up to moot

My posts have pretty much uncovered the unwritten rools

What style of posting do you like the most?
Ones that promote thought or enjoyment

What style of posting do you like the least?
Looooooooooooong unbroken paragraphs

A remark (good or bad) is plenty
And if you give someone a reward point, you just might get one in return….

Reward points remind me of those little stars in kindergarten
Seems they were various colors, the gold ones being most prized
Hung on the wall, no less
Pam had to have extra lines on the chart to make room for her interstellar gold
I coulda lent her summa my space, as my two hard earned grey ones left plenty to share

Grammar?
Really?
In this text day and age?
Aside from legal documents, if it’s readable, it’s just fine

Uncovered?!?

They've dragged them kicking and screaming and beaten them with a wet noodle, only to leave them shivering and naked in the street!

Heh, heh ... I had one of those charts too.

When I got anything but a gold star, I'd wait 'til Mom was busy in the kitchen, then I'd laboriously peel off the offending sticker and replace it with a gold one.

Yeah, I was that kind of kid.

The star system can lead to competition which isn’t so attractive but I do like the fact that a member can leave a little message to another member as a token of appreciation.
That feature is nice , if only, for that alone.
And the icon face thingys are totally cool. :flowers:

Ive got to agree to stay out of heated arguments. Debates are good but flat out arguments aren’t very enjoyable.
Thank you:D

What can I say. There must be a latent English teacher buried deep inside me. Poor spelling, grammar and punctuation have always annoyed me but much less so lately as I age and my own brain and fingers are more easily baffled and befuddled.

Keesha, I also dislike arguments and attacks but love a good debate where "everyone is entitled to his own opinion but not to his own facts." (Daniel Patrick Moynihan) Repeating someone else's opinion several times does not make it fact.

Happy Easter to all.

As to 'stars' .... I love being able to quietly respond favorably to a post but often forget to use them.

In other words, you don't mind having your hair singed, but prefer it not to be scorched. :D

English’ Grammar

Heh heh
That whore of all languages
Stolen from German, French, Spanish, Latin, name it
Hell, we got so many names for the same thing, we make games of it all

Mrs Wadsworth, grade school maven
A strict grammarian
Her denture jowl’d mug could glower a small child to devout attention
Diagramming sentences was her specialty
The blackboard was her tool of instruction, aided by her long wooden pointer
Board and chalk became our worksheet, of which her pointer, when properly slapped on her huge wooden desk, would point out yer mistaken attempt at dangling a participle

I, in my formative machocistic pre-pubescent years, rather enjoyed it
With an exception or two in the adverb/adjective dept
But got good at finding determiners conjuncted among predispoprepositions
Drove her batshit crazy
Rather proud of that

Years later I discovered the anality of it all, from a college professor of, heh, English no less

And today?
After a couple or three decades of seeing slang, once considered some sorta communicable disease, actually being intro’d as perfectly good grammar by some noted shoemaker named Oxford, well, seems all’s fair in love and word

so

Enemarexic bridesmaidzilla butthurt speakgeeks have little effect (affect?) on this word butcher

I’ll be in my shop

Making large wood into smaller, burnable sizes

….with the help of blue air’d syntax
