Pot smoking has doubled in the last ten years!

The increase has been extolled and condemned by different segments of society. Some say that it could lead to the use of stronger drugs and might effect the brain over a period of time. What do you think? And do you do some toking?

I think I remember reading that years ago..

Yes, but the increase in the legality and availability has raised concern of possible harm, but you couldn't prove it by Willie Nelson...

Regular recreational use has not been found to be harmful. Believe me, the anti pot lobby have tried to prove otherwise. Funny, when you consider the mountain of irrefutable evidence proving the deleterious effects of over consumption of alcohol, physically and mentally. Pot smokers don't fly into drug induced rages and maim and kill people, they listen to music and eat quesadillas!

It is disputed. I never tried it as it wasn't around in my youth, or I would have. Booze was the drug of choice in the good old days and still is, but not in large quantities anymore...

Well, I believe that you should try everything once so if you send me some special brownies...

I remember those questions being asked 40 years ago and surely must have been asked many years before that. What are the effects of lets say 40 years of pot smoking? I don't know!

Does it lead to other drugs?

Well, of those pot smokers Ive kept in touch with for at least several years, quite a few began fooling with cocaine and two became addicted.
Those Ive kept in touch with long term and a few even today, only three.
One became a severe alcoholic, one died of heroin overdose and another went to heroin, fought his addiction successfully after years of horror.

As for me, I hadn't smoked since the mid 80's until about two weeks ago! I got high with my grandson.

We watched a movie called "An Idiot Abroad" and I could hardly stop laughing. I asked my grandson if the movie was really that funny or was it just because I was stoned. He said the movie was that funny but what does he know, he was stoned too!

Later, he fell asleep on the couch.
I ate!

How fun Rose! An Idiot Abroad is a series over here. Love it!

I smoked pot in high school and during the 70's and 80's. Last time I smoked it was 1992. I never used any other drugs. I found it affected my memory, so I won't smoke it again unless I need to for something like helping nausea with chemotherapy or something else medical.

I have smoked moderately since my twenties. So far, no negative effects. I think if one is prone to addiction, there are probably no safe drugs.

I agree at this point about those prone to addiction and otherwise pot is harmless, but how does one know about being prone, that the risky part.

But yes, we had some good laughs. He knew I was a pot smoker years ago so he wasn't very surprised except for the fact that I finally allowed it in the house.

Gee Annie I'd forgotten about the memory aspect! See, already I'm forgetting, oh no....

No, being addiction prone isn't a result of smoking pot, it isn't a gateway drug and people don't start playing the piano like a fiend at parties (referencing Reefer Madness).

If prescription drugs were maligned the way weed is this world might be a lot healthier.

Yes, short-term memory is affected (temporarily) and you get the munchies - that's it.

I'm not sure that I agree with "recreational" use of Marijuana....but I fully support "Medical" use. Cannabis is proven to be a Very effective painkiller for those with some chronic illness...and the biggest opposition to its use probably comes from the major drug companies. They probably know that if Medical Marijuana became readily available, it would destroy their Extremely Profitable market for their overpriced "Ask your Doctor" drugs.

I was just reading an article about people having a regular party with space brownies and bon bons. It sounds like fun. One woman said she carries a few munchies in her purse for when she's feeling stressed. The only problem I might see is somebody using too strong a dose while baking...leaving everyone baked instead of just happily buzzed. But yeah I'm forgetful enough as it is.

The only downside I've read about is some paranoia for some people. I remember that from when I smoked pot in HS, but I thought that was just because we were afraid of getting busted.

Speaking of busted, pardon my typing, I currently have a busted right thumb. :-(

At work, building a heavy duty chain link structure. One picture is worth a thousand words:
(looks kinda blurry, looked clearer when on the pain meds ;) )

That is hard cast material around the thumb and coming up the forearm, and wrapped with the elastic stuff, leaving the right+underside of my arm just soft wrapped.
I've got another 1 1/2 or 2 weeks to enjoy this cast, hopefully on the follow up appointment it can be scaled down.
I'm learning fun new ways to do stuff, like buttoning my pants, tying shoestrings. With the big old thumb "extension" I can reach the upper middle section of my back, if I taped on a back-scratcher it could be handy. ;)
