Practicing Gratitude -- Listing Three Things

I've been reading a lot lately about positive psychology and the importance of being grateful for what we have. I'm trying to list three things every day.
Today's list: 1) A kind, wonderful wife; 2) a sweet and loving daughter who lives nearby; and 3) a nice group of friends to play golf with.

This is supposed to be good for your psyche, and I don't disagree. Anybody want to volunteer three things for today?

The Kingston Trio – Desert Pete

I was travelin' West of Buckskin on my way to a cattle run, 'cross a little cactus desert under a hard bargaining sun. Thirsty down to my toenails, I stopped to rest me on a stump, but I tell you I just couldn't believe it when I saw that water pump. I took it to be a mirage at first. It'll fool a thirsty man. Then I saw a note stuck in a bakin' powder can. "This pump is old," the note began, "but she works. So give'er a try. I put a new sucker washer in 'er. You may find the leather dry

You've got to prime the pump. You must have faith and believe. You've got to give of yourself 'fore you're worthy to receive
Drink all the water you can hold. Wash your face to your feet. Leave the bottle full for others. Thank you kindly, Desert Pete

Yeah, you'll have to prime the pump, work that handle like there's a fire. Under the rock you'll find some water left there in a bitter's jar. Now there's just enough to prime it with, so don't you go drinkin' first. Just pour it in and pump like mad and, buddy, you'll quench your thirst

You've got to prime the pump. You must have faith and believe. You've got to give of yourself 'fore you're worthy to receive
Drink all the water you can hold. Wash your face to your feet. Leave the bottle full for others. Thank you kindly, Desert Pete

Well, I found the jar, and I tell you, nothin' was ever prettier to my eye and I was tempted strong to drink it because that pump looked mighty dry, but the note went on, "Have faith, my friend, there's water down below. You've got to give to really get. I'm the one who ought to know."

So I poured in the jar and started pumpin' and I heard a beautiful sound of water bubblin' 'n' splashin' up out of that hole in the ground. Then I took off my shoes and drunk my fill of that cold refreshin' treat. Tthen I thanked the Lord, and I thanked the pump, and I thanked old Desert Pete

You've got to prime the pump. You must have faith and believe. You've got to give of yourself 'fore you're worthy to receive
Drink all the water you can hold. Wash your face to your feet. Leave the bottle full for others. Thank you kindly, Desert Pete

i have established a habit of saying ‘thank you for hot and cold running water’ every time I take a shower. Thankful for water that is safe to drink and bathe in , and is available with just the turn of a faucet. Having spent some time in a third world country where availability of safe water is an issue , it’s not something I take for granted.

At the moment, my financial needs are met and my wants are usually just a passing fancy.

i am thankful for my two adult children who are kind, have an abundance of common sense, and are productive members of society.

That's the kind of thing I'm talking about!

Three things I'm thankful for...

My relatively good health as I approach 60 years of age. I have schizophrenia but haven't had a relapse in over 3 years.

My lovely wife and twin daughters. They make even the most trying days worth it all.

My wonderful late parents who have left all 5 of us a nice inheritance to help guide us through the upcoming retirement years.

My life is quiet these days...peaceful. I have no major complaints to lodge about anything. I've picked up the guitar again and started to pen some new stuff as well as revisiting older material. I've also begun Chess games on the weekend with my brother again. It's all good! :)

I pray every night not because I'm religious but because it gives me a way of expressing my gratitude.

I'm thankful for the life I have even though I'm not sure I deserve it.
I'm thankful for experiencing love and true joy.
I'm thankful my children have grown into adults that not only am I proud of but I truly have respect for.

Yes, thankfulness should be at the beginning of every prayer and request. Really, we live like kings relative to the majority of this world, even if we are just barely getting by. A home, water, heat, food, clothes, . . .

”Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God”
Philippians 4:6

Ok here's today's three things:

1) Went to another walk in clinic today. Apparently I have bronchitis but I'm grateful it's nothing worse.

2) It's another cool and beautiful day in Virginia, with temperatures slightly below normal.

3) I have nothing scheduled today so I'm going to enjoy resting and reading a good book.

My son came on the first dog walk with me this morning, which makes it so much more enjoyable.

My husband is off today so I get his company all day.

When I was hungry this morning, there were yogurts, string cheese, fruits and wheat bread to eat, just right there waiting for me.
