Probably most of the world is on drugs

Well, drugs are defined as any chemical substance other than a nutrient or an essential dietary ingredient, which, when administered to a living organism, produces a biological effect. It doesn't have to be a pharma type.
Drug as a nutrient? Many people use substances that are not an essential dietary substance. A lot of different herbs are used this way. The kind of oils and fats we believe are good for us....

Some Egyptian mummies proved positive for cocaine.
Even some cursory searching will reveal that this was never true. The "research" which "proved" it is very dubious and fails on at least 3 major points. The mummies involved most likely not being from Egypt at all!

I'm pretty sure that if I make enough posts here about the non-existent Shirley MacLaine National Forest some of you here will run with that and your confirmation bias to believe it's a real thing within a week.

I guess I had never thought of it before, but it's likely that the majority of the world is on drugs. Think about that.
It's not a criticism it's just a sudden realization.
We consume caffeine, beer, wine, cocktails, nicotine, marijuana, all manner of OTC and prescribed medications, and even some energy drinks.
From fraternities to seniors, we seem to need them to function well in society.
But considering the large populations in places like India, China, Africa, and the Middle-East, I don't think the majority of the world is on drugs. I might be proven wrong if I looked it up, but I'm guessing it's not even 1/2 the world.

Here are a few animals that use drugs...

animals that use drugs, what kind name about 6 different animals

Here are six animals known to use or interact with drugs:

1. **Wallabies**: Consume opium from poppy fields in Tasmania, often hopping in circles while intoxicated[2][7].
2. **Jaguars**: Chew ayahuasca vines, containing DMT, which induces hallucinations[3][4].
3. **Cats**: Domestic and wild cats (e.g., tigers) react to catnip, exhibiting intoxicated behaviors like rolling and sniffing[3].
4. **Bighorn Sheep**: Lick hallucinogenic lichen on high-altitude rocks, risking dangerous climbs[2][8].
5. **Bees**: Fed cocaine in studies, they exaggerate nectar findings and suffer withdrawal symptoms when deprived[9].
6. **Dolphins**: Squeeze pufferfish to release toxins, inducing a trance-like state[3][4].

I remember reading about a marine animal that shows up in droves whenever cocaine smuggling small-plane and boat pilots have to dump their payload into the sea. But I forget what animal it is. Dolphins, maybe?...I'm not sure.

Well, I was curious, so I checked, and in just the prescription drug category alone, China and India are a huge market, and that's not even counting all the other types of milder drugs mentioned. I guess it makes sense considering China's aging population, and accompanying need. I didn't check Africa and the Middle East, but I would guess it's not all that different.

I think part of the confusion is in how we commonly think of drugs, as opposed to reality. A simple aspirin is a drug when you think about it. Even topical medications and remedies that are absorbed through the skin are as well. I don't really see it as a problem, and as I said, it's not a criticism, just a thought that occurred.

I'll give it some more thought later when it's time for my cocktail. 🍹 (Cheers)

The change that I’ve noticed are the commercials encouraging young people to differentiate between fentanyl laced knock off drugs and real big pharma drugs.

It feels like the recreational use of drugs is now being accepted.

I have to admit that I know nothing about recreational drug use and am not trying to be critical because I enjoyed my share of alcohol and tobacco over the years.
I can’t imagine you drinking alcohol and smoking tobacco. 😱lol

I'm not taking any kind of drugs right now but have nothing against them. Sometimes if I'm in pain I even wish I had a good tranquilizer to knock me out for awhile so I can sleep and let my body heal itself.

Note most tea, all coffee, cola soft drinks, many other soft drinks, energy drinks, and many head cold medicines all contain CAFFEINE. So yes all you coffee and tea drinkers are also on RECREATIONAL DRUGs. Even decaffeinated coffee contains about 3% caffeine. Chocolate contains theobromine a mild caffeine family molecule. And alcohol is very much a drug.

Also monosodium glutamate aka MSG in many processed snack foods and Asian foods, is a neural drug that is purposely added because it enhances taste and smell.

Most of my adult life days, I never consumed ANY medicines or ANY rec drugs but yes have always two occasionally though in recent years much more theobromine from chocolate. As a senior for last 3+ years have daily consumed hydroxyurea a prescription chemo drug for my polycythemia vera bone neoplasm. Rarely ever sick from head colds or flu and just consumed aspirin/ibuprofen except for toothaches or very rare headaches. I did drink very minor amounts of alcohol for social reasons until in my 30s but since then just sip a little very infrequently.

So in informal conversation, statements against using DRUGs without qualifications, use the term much too broadly. I personally do not have an issue with others using some drugs occasionally.

I suppose one could even point out that our own bodies produce them anyway as a response to behaviors (Gambling, shopping, and gaming).
That portion of society that don't think they are on drugs, probably are.
I have no point; it's just something that dawned on me.
Oh well ......, time for another cup of joe.
I could say an energy drink; Big Gulp & a cheesy snack is most likely the common stuff at all who visit a Fast food or Metro Mart.

It most certainly IS a drug.

Caffeine is a stimulant drug, which means it speeds up the messages travelling between the brain and the body.

It’s found in the seeds, nuts and leaves of a number of different plants.
Is that why lots of Oranges are now seedless / taste strange when juiced meat. Use them seeds for profits?

Is it fate or the way life evolved that makes pain so hard to manage? If we find a substance that relieves acute pain, we become physically addicted to it. What the heck for? Why can't we take the substance with no problem? Is life sending us some profound truth about enduring torture is a virtue? Is it built into life that we must endure many illnesses without relief? If so what is the lesson? Really, I am still trying to understand why this is? I know about pain being there to warn us of danger, and let us know about being injured so we will survive. Is that it? The struggle to survive is more important than progressing without pain.?
