Proof that people are nuts: guy kills brother because of mayonnaise

From the article:
Kristofer Erlbacher, 29, of Woodbine, was sentenced Monday to a mandatory life sentence after being convicted in December of first-degree murder in the 2020 killing of 30-year-old Caleb Solberg, of Moorhead, the Des Moines Register reported.
I'm sure he'll do well in the Iowa Department of Corrections. Maybe he can get a job in the prison kitchen making sandwiches....

From the linked article:
"Erlbacher unsuccessfully sought to reduce the charge to second-degree murder, arguing he acted recklessly because he was drunk and didn’t intend to kill Solberg."

In my view, being drunk when committing a crime should increase the charges, not reduce them. Being drunk is an additional offense, not an extenuating circumstance.

I don't know if it's changed in recent years, but long ago California's laws stated voluntary intoxication is not a defense.

The good news is using being drunk didn't work as a defense to reduce this nut jobs sentence to make it possible to get out of prison earlier.

Since the WWW arose, I've sometimes hypothetically related that if each of us had a button that could instantly zap into non-existence any of those they knew personally that within a short few weeks the planet would no longer have a problem of Earth monkey overpopulation. Reflects the sad mental state and self control when emotional of so many.

What keeps that from occurring despite many indeed having weapons is when those emotionally unstable enough to do so become angry, they rarely at the same time have immediate access to their weapons.

Oh, saying that "some people are nuts" is not news to me. I knew this fact years and years ago. Johnny Cash even had a song about these guys. The song was recorded January 28, 1966 and my "Johnny Cash Discography" doesn't lie.
