Question about cat fishing

For those members who don’t know:

“Catfishing is the act of creating a false online identity to deceive someone, often with the goal of manipulation, financial scams, or other harmful purposes. It involves using fabricated information, photos, and online behavior to pretend to be someone you're not, typically to gain the trust and affection of a victim. “

If it happens here, I’m unaware of it. Matrix runs a pretty tight ship.

Just curious if you get catfishers here?

Catfishers on this forum are few and far between. Mostly, I don't think they dare show their faces, as our Seniors will identify them in seconds and pounce on them within minutes. The Seniors we have here are fearless and take no prisoners.

Catfishers on this forum are so rare that they have almost reached mythical status. When they do show up, it’s usually on a Sunday after Evensong. The rest of the week, they are otherwise engaged -- to someone on another forum who didn’t see them coming.

Most of them aren’t all that bright, and we can usually spot them a mile off before they have even turned up.

Well, I found one. How do I report this?

She’s gone. Funny thing was a Google image search returned a bunch of hits with the same picture on different platforms.

I did something similar a few months ago -- an avatar image of a man. The results turned up the same picture on different platforms under different names. The people who create these things never seem to be that sophisticated. I even found what seemed to be the true person in the picture, who was probably unaware his photo was being used in this way.

I posted links to all the same avatar. The person on this forum behind it was quickly removed -- along with the thread he or she started.

Think pink. I did an image search. Not very creative.

I think I know who you might be referring to. A woman whose profile here says "Male". Seems that the true owner of the photo might be French, who seems to have a lot of photos of herself on the internet -- some potentially quite provocative in the minds of some.

Seems like several people are using the same photos.

This is what happens if you post too many photos of yourself online. A Catfisher then has a large pool of photos to pull from of the same person when attempting to scam.

Yes, and so sad for the young lady being catfished, and I never would have guessed the predator. I don't want to say too much and give it away in case any other SF members might want to watch it.
This might be a bit of a spoiler, actually. Maybe move it down the page a bit and put a spoiler alert on it? :)
