Question for Retirees in their late 60's and 70's.

When I lived outside the community
What does this mean? Were you in a commune? A religious community? Something else?
As a result of choosing that path, I have very little Social Security. I didn't pay into the system for about 30 years. They are helping me with some of my Medicare costs. It is for "poor" seniors. I have heard that Social Security in general might be in trouble in the coming years. They might need to rearrange it, or make drastic cuts. Most transactions will be done through private operators next.
DH & I had a sole proprietorship/partnership, so we paid taxes on our earnings and draws, including both employee and employer portions of Social Security. Can't tell you how happy we are now to have made those choices.

SS is a "third rail" issue for politicians. Most politicians talking about tinkering with it have promised no cuts to anyone currently drawing SS or those soon to be eligible.

Yes, I lived in an income sharing community for 35 years. That is how we were able to live so simply.
