shirt & tie.jpg
On the previous page there are a number of larger photos of this shirt. It depicts the golden age of travel.
To line up the pattern on the front panels produced more waste than the pattern predicted. Always resourceful
my wife has a novel way of utilising off-cuts, it's given me quite a collection of bow ties.

Try finding original 1940's style trousers. The attention to detail is what makes mine look so original.
That vee shape at the back of the waist was known as fish tail and the buttoned flies are unheard of nowadays.
The full length photo clearly shows how the waist was higher at the back, a style that lasted well into the fifties.

The colour disparity is due to the shot on the right being in strong sunlight, I will try and get a better full length
shot the next time that the sun puts in an appearance.
They look really nice. :)

A few years back, we came to know, through friends, of a single mother raising a couple of children alone. Money has always been a problem in that there's never enough of it. The lady is proud though, charity is for the deserving she would say, adding, we'll manage.

My wife suggested to her that she might like to take on our ironing, now that idea the young mother liked, so since then we euphemistically call her, our ironing fairy.

The young lady calls regularly to collect our ironing and, later, return it all pristine. We do so treasure our ironing fairy, and, although the lady proudly says that charity is for the deserving, she was more than grateful when my wife made a dress for her that was for some special occasion.

Our ironing fairy has become a treasured friend, how lucky we were at that chance meeting. Did I tell you we have a husband and wife gardening fairies? I need to read back through the thread to see if I did, old age and amnesia and all that. To be continued.

One of our friends is celebrating his 60th birthday in style. It's going to be more like the wedding reception party. He's booked a venue, a band, laid on catering and chances are, he's set up a free bar too. My lady will twitch in her seat longing to get up and dance, but just being amongst good friends will keep her cheerful.
Dress code for today is anybody's guess, but just in case it's a more relaxed casual affair, I have an Aloha shirt in the car.

The birthday party was amazing, our birthday boy really pushed the boat out. The venue was a large ballroom come theatre, we enjoyed the music of two different bands, the catering just overflowed and bottles of wine were there for all to help themselves.

The Hawaiian shirt was more or less the unwritten dress code, so I changed my collar and tie for the floral shirt. It was enjoyable meeting up with many past friends. We did have a couple of slow dances, more of a shuffle around the dance floor, but the lady loved it all the same.

On the previous page I showed you a couple of my dress waistcoats, or vests, if you prefer. One of my favourites is really a fun waistcoat that I only wear when in party mode. The shirt that I wear it with was also made by my talented wife.

See how the shirt's collar and cuffs match up with the waistcoat. It never fails to get attention.

The trousers that I am lucky enough to have made by my lady's fair hand, always fit a treat. Three fittings during their making helps.
The photo above, although poor quality, shows you how the back of the waistline is much higher than the front. The trousers sit comfortably like that, supported by suspenders/braces.

Looking at the detail, the "fish tail" finish at the back of the waist is more than a feature. Being higher than the front, the vee shape prevents wrinkling. I love the way the stitching follows the feature.
The buttoned fly and button holes line up because they were marked up with tailor's chalk during a fitting. Look at the black lining material, as much work, if not more, goes into the lining, and it's never seen.

See here professionally made trousers, at £225:00, how would you say they compere?

Tomorrow evening we are off to VE Day 80. The brochure reads: "A beacon and lamps of peace will be lit in Sturminster Newton to ‘shine a light’ on the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe. On Saturday 3rd May there will be a 1940s dance at The Exchange: dance to the Big Band sounds of the Moonlight Swing Band to truly bring the 40s party to life. Tickets £15 – dress for the 1940s, there’s a prize for the best costume."
Prize for the best costume. Costume? How dare they call it costume? Here's what I am wearing.

The waistcoat, tie & pocket square and the Oxford Bags trousers are all off my lady's sewing machine.
Five photos being the maximum means that last photo must show you my choice of blazer, made for me by John at Fox Tailoring. The fedora is also bespkoke, courtesy of Gamble & Gunn. The tie in the photo is different to the one that I will be wearing but the shirt is my choice for the outfit, and as you might have guessed, it was made by my wife.

When I laid out my choice, my wife's comment was: Mmm! 50 Shades of Grey!
Hopefully I will get some photos of the event, watch this space.
By the way, we have quite a busy weekend, I will keep you posted.

My lady got me on the dance floor last night. She worried me, but it was the one dance, even so, if my heart was thumping with the exercise what was her's doing? Yesterday my wife had a text from Ian of The Jive Aces. Are we going to Summertime Swing? And is your lovely MG coming along? We shall see.

Today a crowd of friends are joining us for lunch at Drusilla's Inn to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

Kind of you to say so Dave. Apologies for not responding sooner, I keep forgetting to check the thread, old age and amnesia, common bed fellows.

The rhododendrons make for an impressive backdrop. The shirt and trousers that my lady made for me are just right for the glorious weather.
Then again, there are times, mostly work, when a smarter appearance is called for. The trouser hems have a twenty-two inch circumference.

At the end of the month, as May rolls into June, we are off to The Vintage Nostalgia Show. It's only just over thirty miles from our home, a text from one of the organisers, along with a clandestine photo from a previous year, asking us: "Are you coming to see us this year?" Adding, "In your lovely MG?"

poole23.jpg

A brief phone call explaining about my lady's health and they were most helpful.
We shall be attending throughout the day, as long as my wife feels well enough.
The car will carry her in style, every day, to and from the venue.
Your's truly will be on chauffeur duties.

grey and white fabric.jpg
This fabric is now in the assembly stage, the panels have all been cut to size, that's my dimension measurements. It's not intended to be an open neck "Aloha" type of shirt. It will have a buttoned collar and that collar, along with the cuffs, will be in white. In the meantime another shirt graces my wardrobe. It's in the colours of the team that we used to support where we lived previously. Known as: The Saints, that team are Northampton Rugby Union Club.
