Quit Your Job And Live Abroad: 8 Places So Cheap You Might Not Need To Work

Nicaragua does have a few problems-gangs , poverty, etc. Living abroad? That sounds great, when you are still healthy and physically able. . I'm not sure living in a totally different culture, as you age, is a good a good thing. You would be away from friends, relatives, and the USA-all of which you will miss. Come on , you will need medical care, again, it's a different system than what you are used to. You may not be able to access their medical system. Paying on your own may be extremely expensive. Butterfly noted a huge legal problem, do those places want you? It may be a big legal hassle to actually move there. I'm stuck in the good ol' USA.

Nicaragua
No
Gets to be boring
Can get dangerous

Thailand
Are you effing kidding?
No

Belize
Dominican Republic
Colombia

Oh, Hell no!!

No matter how long you live there, you’re at best a tourist
They act like they like you
They hate you
Yer a pinche gringo on a good day
If you happen to make a friend there, a good one, he’ll beg you to leave

....and if you don't speak the language (no matter how many speak English) you....are.....dead....meat

What pinche joto comes up with this crap?

Interesting.
Actually, if you're in the U.S., you don't even have to move to another country to live cheaper. I saw an ad in the classifieds, beautiful Vermont will pay you $10, 000 to move and work there. I can't get that idea out of my head, since my dream is to live in a mountain town again.

Americans should consider Canada on retirement income.

Right off the bat the U.S. Dollar converts to about $1.30 Canadian dollars.

English speaking and similar life style with a safer environment. Guns are controlled.

And close to home.

You even get U.S. Channels on television so you don't miss the young and the restless.

I'll stay here.

IMO you can duplicate the savings in some of these low-cost countries right here in the United States if you are willing to do without the things that make life more and more expensive.

Move into a tiny apartment/cabin, give up owning a car, become a vegetarian, stop being a consumer, drop the cable, drop the phone, keep seeking the minimum.

Down to the Banana Republics
Down to the tropical sun
Go the expatriated American
Hopin' to find some fun

Some of them go for the sailing
Brought by the lure of the sea
Tryin' to find what is ailing
Living in the land of the free

Some of them are running from lovers
Leaving no forward address
Some of them are running tons of ganja
Some are running from the IRS

Late at night you will find them
In the cheap hotels and bars
Hustling the senoritas
While they dance beneath the stars
Spending those renegade pesos
On a bottle of rum and a lime
Singin' give me some words I can dance to
Or a melody that rhymes

First you learn the native custom
Soon a word of Spanish or two
You know that you cannot trust them
Cause they know they can't trust you

Expatriated American feelin' so all alone
Telling themselves the same lies
That they told themselves back home

Down to the Banana Republics
Things aren't as warm as they seem
None of the natives are buying
Any second hand American dreams

Late at night you will find them
In the cheap hotels and bars
Hustling the senoritas
While they dance beneath the stars

Spending those renegade pesos
On a bottle of rum and a lime
Singing give me some words I can dance to
Or a melody that rhymes

But you're going backwards Bea..When we get to our 'silver / golden' years we're supposed to allow for a few easier things. Maybe a luxury or two.............:)

But yeah,...either way, I'm with you, in....stayin' here.
