Race to find Titanic tourist submarine with British billionaire and four others aboard that has vanished

On Sky News they were asked about finding the bodies and the spokesman replied by saying that they do not know if that is possible given that it was a catastrophic implosion. They can't say when it happened but did say that it was not close to the Titanic so, I would assume, it likely happened around the time the mothership lost contact - 1hr and 45 minutes into the dive.

Oh, they believe the cause of the implosion was the catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber.

RIP the crew.

No contact said alot. Still wondering about that tapping noise. Wonder as oxygen declined that helped create an inward pressure without pressurized O2 tank?

Again RIP the crew and condolences to the families
The U.S. Coast Guard is saying that they believe there was no connection. He is thanking all those who supported in the search. I think he was obviously being very careful not to give details which may be upsetting to the family. He handled it very well, I think.

..and yet the parts of the Titan they found were just 500 meters from the Titanic

I imagine parts are scattered all around and, I guess, we have to bear in mind that they are giving their best guess now and further investigation may change their view. Also, maybe he meant, not close enough for it to have collided with the wreckage?

2 debris fields but no evidence of the five men.

Keep seeing and hearing only billionaires died. They were people including a 19 year old.

They were people and explorers willing to take a risk. With most human endeavors in the beginning there will be catastrophic mistakes, failures, bad luck etc. This is how we learn. If people had stopped sailing after the Titanic sunk we(civilization)probably wouldn't have the shipping on the scale we see today. Nor would there be a cruise business which opened the parts of the world that one would not have had a chance to see. The biggest safety on cruise ships today seems to be intoxicated or murderous passengers going over board.

In the end besides the personal tragedies this is a learning experience.

Peace

A while ago, I watched Finding Michael, he died on Everest and, years later, his brother tried to find him. It's difficult to understand people who take risks if you don't have that in your nature but, some people are just born adventurers and take risks because, that's just how they are.

Since I don't have cable, I knew I'd get the latest by reading this thread. I feel bad for their families, especially the woman who lost her husband and son! I bet she did not want her son (maybe not the husband either) to go on that excursion. The waiting and not knowing must've been bad enough but how terrible to find out that loved ones died in that manner.

I was hoping for the best outcome but from the first time I saw the news about this expedition, I had the ominous feeling that they were not going to make it. May the five R.I.P.

That and there's stuff to be learned from these adventures. After several years of diving with courses/certification I learned the importance of keeping the body's core warm and/or how it keeps itself warm. Ie why the half or sleeveless wet suit. Lumber jack vests the same principle.

The point is there are practical applications for the skills, knowledge and gear used in these adventures.

And for people who complain or berate about these endeavors how many are doing it from a bar stool cooking livers and brain cells who will wind up experiencing just as dangerous catastrophic events.

Civil liability is almost certain. Possible criminal liability should be looked into also.
Who would be the regulatory authority for kind of venture. The US Coast Guard was there but if was off New Foundland. Isn't that open waters?

Where they signed the contracts and paid the money have jurisdiction?

Yes, one point of Venue would be at the Port of departure.

Terrible tragedy for those onboard the submersible and for their families and loved ones.

Yeah, guess there'll be a test of how those hold-harmless agreements and waivers hold up in the future.

Some personal thoughts: Put the Titanic site off-limits for any and all pending and future sight-seeing trips. Cordon the Titanic off electronically and torpedo its remains to utter rust dust. Seventeen hundred deaths one hundred years ago, and now another five. It's a death ship. Strike it from the rolls.

Can't ban activities with risk. Ever go sky or scuba diving? Some have 4 page waivers. The more it's done the safer it will become and open to more than just the uber rich.

It is a grave so the wreck should be treated respectfully with authority granted to who ever to enforce that.

the 19 year old... R.I.P..... was the son of a British Pakistani Billionaire who was also killed

RIP

Yep, probably never knew what hit them. Hope so anyway.
I sincerely hope so... but you know whether they did or didn't this is going to be what goes down in history books.. no-one is going to admit they might have really suffered... and with every fibre of my being I hope they didn't suffer..I hope it was instant

I'm a little older now and I don't have the money or in fact the best health that I would need for adventures any more.. but I kinda understand where these people are coming from. Both my daughter and I are /were very into trying any adventurous thing at least once... she more than me because she could afford it more than me back in the day... but from jumping out of Planes, sky diving, .. Parasailing ( my favourite) ..... scuba diving in the Australia at the great Barrier reef..bungee jumping in South Africa .... Mountain hiking in Spain... F1 motor racing in the UK... ..you get the Gist... it's just a lot of fun.. but even if I'd had the money there are things I wouldn't have tried, and this fated Titan trip would have been one of them
