Rant About Specialty Subscription TV Channels

I don't have or want any fee TV shows or channels. We record on our Dish TV channels anything we want to watch. Then when we play them back I skip through the commercials...it is a bit of a pain, but ANYTHING to not watch those stupid commercials!

Don't get me started on all the magic medications and vitamins they try to force on us.....it is 'Geritol' in the worst way possible!
Talking about medications. The commercials are absolutely ludicrous! "Ask your doctor for xxxxx ! Some of the side effects you might experience are such and such, on rare occasions even leading to death!" Ask me if I'll ever ask my doctor for the afore mentioned!

We have a Spectrum cable package that does not include any premium channels. Lately what has really bummed me is when one of those channels I've been paying for, for years, finally gets something good, and we have to pay extra for it.

Case in point: AMC tends to show the same old movies over and over, about ten years ago they had good shows in Mad Men and then Breaking Bad. After a long dry spell they had, "Better Call Saul," which I loved. Now they have a new show coming up with the star of that show. I can't get it unless I pay for AMC+! It's like they'll take our money through cable year after year, but anything good comes along and I wont be able to get it. Because I'm not paying a penny more than what I already paid for cable.

On March 6th, I paid Netflix 15.99 for one month so I could stream "The Crown," on my computer. After that I watched as many other things that interested me and I'm all done with every last bit of anything that looks good and the month isn't over. I'll do the same thing in a few years when "The Crown," next season is ready.

I cut cable a couple years back. Also just cut out HULU and Netflix, as I figured I did not watch either enough to warrant the expense. I watch a lot on YouTube and Amazon Prime.
I am trying to get my debt under control. Have a high credit card bill which I want to get paid off. Maybe come winter I may bring back HULU.

I started with Amazon Prime, which I don’t think is as good as it once was…plus often the movies that you most want to see cost extra beyond your subscription. I recently tried Netflix basic with ads, and liked it enough to upgrade to regular basic without the ads, worth three bucks a month more to dispense with the annoying, inconvenient, and repetitious ads.

All new Star Trek shows are hidden behind a paywall at Paramount+, and I’m a big enough fan to make it worth yet another subscription, this one the most basic that they have, with ads. At least you can cancel at any time…

Well so much for the Yellowstone tv Series....looks like Kevin Costner has
let his divorce get in the way....only one more season I guess, and then will
be supposedly replaced with another "type" of that show....bummer.......😒

Sorry, not ranting. Actually, very happy with the decision hubby and I had tentatively put down on our January 2022 to-do list.

Join Disney+ in July 2022. Now, it's part of my lineup for free after a year. I got great films and so far, three TV series. The Santa Clauses, Home Improvement (all 8 seasons) and as of yesterday, Last Man Standing (all 9 seasons) Yes!

On the other hand, The Crown, used to show up on Alibi and we'd got Seasons 1-4 on DVDs. Sadly now it seems to be available only on Netflix. Sorry, but the subscription price is way too much for the last two seasons.

I'll just wait for these two to come out on DVD.

I cut the chord in late 2018 and have never regretted it. I average about $38 a month for my streaming services, with most of what I stream being ad free. That is about 25% of what I'd be paying for cable if I subscribed to all the channels I have access to now. @Lee , you could subscribe to a service long enough to watch a season (or seasons) of what you wish to see, then cancel. And most services now have a free subscription period, from a week to a month, according to the service. I've decided some services I'll pay for all the time (keepers) and some I'll pause or cancel for X amount of months. Netflix makes it really easy to pause with no payment due and your watchlist intact for 10 months. I have:
Hulu Plus... $15.35, a keeper, the No Ads plan...they just went up to $15.35 with taxes. Their plan with ads option is only $7.99 + tax. Free month for new subscribers.
Discovery+.. $6.99 ...all my HGTV shows, ad free, definitely a keeper.
Paramount+ $9.99 I'll cancel it for a few months at a time during the year. Last time I went to cancel, they offered me two months free to stay, so I took that deal.
Netflix $15.49 for ad free. Up from about $12 the last time I subscribed. I've had Netflix on pause for about 4 months.
Amazon Prime video..$0 courtesy of my MetroPCS plan.

The total per month is $47.82 but pausing/canceling for months at a time brings it down to about $38 when averaged out. I would never pay $70 a month for "live T.V." That would mean I'm back paying to see ads, which I can't fathom doing. As far as local news, I have a few apps on which I can read the local news. The articles sometime include video reports.
