This might help you understand, C50:I don't understand professional services, like a doctors office or service person, that call you and simply ask "is this Joe?". When I had a business I insisted when staff called someone they stated their name and the name of our business as soon as the call was answered, that's the professional way of doing it. It also bothers me to call a business and they answer with "hello", they should answer stating the business name or you feel like you may have called a wrong number.
Basic professional phone etiquette in my opinion.
Our small business phone numbers are my & my husband's personal cell phone numbers. We answer with "Hello."
Business lines are bombarded - and I do mean bombarded - with spam. We eventually ditched ours because for every legitimate call we received, we got at least 20 spams.
I was at at the checkout counter of a small business tile store about 5 years ago. The phone was ringing off the hook, but nobody was answering it, despite the store not being busy at that time.
After I gave a quizzical look, the clerk said their outgoing message gave store times, address, etc., then required someone to press two digits to be advanced to a back office phone. She shook her head and said almost no calls were forwarded or even stayed on the line to hear the message - they were all spam.
Our phone numbers aren't published, nor are our business email addresses (which also got spammed like crazy when they were published). It sucks to have to do that, but many businesses have been forced into it by bots and spammers.
