Rapes in Scotland Increase

Things are done differently here. They don't contract out police. And we don't have so many levels of law enforcement like sheriff, city police, state police, etc etc. It's just Police. Local police became Police Scotland.

In some respects that's good but it's also bad because of 'all the eggs in one basket' thing. National police forces could be a good thing. They should have more standardized polices, procedure and training so one knows what they are getting. But who sets the standards and policy? One bad apple could ruin it for everybody with no alternatives or back-up.

In Canada we have city or provincial police in the larger areas, RCMP in the more rural ones. Until recently, this division of labour seemed to work very well. Lately, however, stories of corruption, illegal spying, kissing the Federal government's derrière, along with a BC class action suit by female former RCMP officers, alleging harassment and severe sexual misconduct, has severely tainted the once pristine rep of this paramilitary organisation. They are perceived as arrogant and viewing themselves as above the very laws they are sworn to protect. A sad day for Canucks.
