Hello (again) everyone,

I was here several months (a year ish?) ago and had to phase out after a while. Some of you guys might remember me from the Zoomies. ;)

So, I've turned 60 whilst I've been away and I have to say, it's kinda freak'n me out and I *did not* expect that. I was looking forward to aging and am surprised at my actual reaction.

I checked Reddit (on which I am active) for a sub about aging but, sheesh, they think 45 is freaking old on that board.

I think I need to read a few books on aging and dying, join a group, process and then let it go so I can get on with the biz of living well.

I'm looking forward to *seeing* you all again. :)
 

Figure out a method to create a completely different life for yourself to occasionally physically do.
Say one lives in the big city. One weekend a month go out into the rural world, State Park etc. stay the
weekend and explore nature. Any kind of a nature weekend. It doesn't matter as long as it is a different life you say to yourself.

Thas just one thought to pursue with growing up as an elder. One couple I knew had a camper in Colorado. Every summer
they would go there. For many years. They are both now passed but they always talked about the mountains of Colorado.
That was their escape to a different life, away from the office and Timber work even though retired they still were involved some.

I chose a Camper at a Lake, later buying a home at the lake. It has been my Spring thru late Fall 10 day on 10 days off project for 25 years now.
A Completely different life, everything talked out while traveling many hours there and back to the city. Out of Doors for many hours every day there. One might say Weeks every year.

I started drawing 1st. One day I drew a Bald Eagle. Then I drew Eagle Band Members. Then I started designing Homes and Decks and Stuff.
I think that's how I bought into the Plan to go to the Rural Lake life a lot. There are some pretty girls in pencil drawings too. Comic jokes and stuff too.

Maybe I never learned how to just make small talk.

It's what the majority of the Reddit crowd considers old. LOL -- I'm on a sub for women over sixty and and there's a sub for just peeps over sixty, but I was thinking ---- well, you know, you're right; r/askoldpeople probably is worth a shot. LOL, "Anyone else freaked out by their impending inevitable death?" LOL

I am wondering why you chose Medusa as a nick. Did you know ... Medusa's visage has since been adopted by many women as a symbol of female rage; one of the first publications to express this idea was a feminist journal called Women: A Journal of Liberation in their issue one, volume six for 1978. The cover featured the image of the Gorgon Medusa by Froggi Lupton, which the editors on the inside cover explained "can be a map to guide us through our terrors, through the depths of our anger into the sources of our power as women. I hadn't read that. Interesting; thank you for sharing it.

I go by Medusa around the net because she calls to me. She is a misunderstood, not so monstrous, monster. Did you know that Medusa was made a gorgon for the crime of being assaulted by Poseidon?

Hi @Medusa I remember you! It's great to see you posting again. Welcome back.

To be honest, I was devastated on my 30th birthday, I thought it was so old! I seemed to barely recover from that shocker when, I reached 40 and wished I could turn the clock back to 30 again!

When you are 70 you will look back and wish you were 60 again. When you are 80 you will remember the joy of being 70. If we all reach a 100, we will likely be posting how it doesn't seem that long since we were young 90-somethings.

I think we should all forget about this aging and dying malarkey and just enjoy journey :)

You know, I freaked out at 30 too; noticed the first emerging fine lines and realized I was going to age like everyone else. :/ lol 40 was fun for me and as with 50, I embraced it.

I really expected to feel the same way when turning 60 and my visceral, "Oh My Gods I'm Going To Die," reaction surprised me. I think I just need to process.

When I turned 30, a work friend was also going to be 30 a week later. We kept it a secret, disappeared to the pub at lunchtime and spent the whole hour mourning for the loss of our youthfulness. Goodness, I'd love to be that old now! :)

Actually, I think turning 60 is different because, we generally start thinking about things like retirement and health more and often people start to treat you a little differently unless, we just imagine they do! I think doctors do. You have a cold at 50 and it's a cold, have it at 60 and it's age related :rolleyes:

OMG, right? To be as young as I was when I thought I was old!

I have noticed my GYN and the occasional office staff calling me, "Dear." Apparently, I am the same age as my GYN's mother as she had her at 18 as well. That is just freaky. My GYN is not young. Well, actually neither is my eldest at 42. OMG's, I fracking old! LOL :eek:
