Re-using Postage Stamps

Stamps in Canada are now a dollar. A dollar saved is a dollar earned. And it takes just a minute or two to steam and thereby earn a buck :D

These days with bills payable online, I buy only one or two sheets of stamps a year for birthday cards, and I always go for the commemoratives. I really love seeing the new designs. When I can't find a commemorative design I like at my local post office, I'll buy them from the USPS online. Reusing them is a federal offense, so would never be worth it.

You guys are a riot sometimes! :D You must be picturing us spending hours a day soaking postage stamps.

How many postage stamps have you seen that didn't get cancelled?

And yes Robusta, it's still stealing, even if only 1 stamp.

:hatlaugh:

Robusta, don't you think you are over-reacting a little bit? What would happen to you if there was a 'real' crime --- would your head explode?

Nancy, I agree. How often does this even happen?

I never even notice the stamps on an envelope I've received. Either the whole thing goes into the recycle bin, or I am interested in what's inside the envelope.

Speaking of stamps, I'm always amused by the fuss the govt. makes over their "Forever" stamps. They got talked into an advertising campaign to get people to buy a lot of stamps in advance, with the promise that they can be used forever; the cost of sending a letter will never go up. But when you think about it, how absurd! The price of postage usually goes up by about 2 cents every few years. It's been a pretty long time since the last raise. Does anyone really worry about whether their current supply of stamps will still be good 10 years from now? Yet, that "Forever" campaign acts like this is the great investment of the century.

Robusta, sheesh! Stop shouting. (Thanks for apologizing, anyway.)

I am sorry if I offended anyone.
I am not crazy.
I do try to live my life in an honorable manner.
There are no degrees of honesty, it is like an on off switch
I try to speak clearly concisely and truthfully
I am missing that filter that most people have that mutes and softens their delivery.
Take me or spank me.

1 ditto.gif...Grandkids love receiving mail!!!!! No one else sends them anything!!!

The only reason I asked is that one time I was visiting my uncle and he had received a large manila envelope in the mail with three first-class stamps on it that had not been cancelled. It made me wonder about re-using stamps.

You probably didn't have parents who grew up poor during the depression. It has been ingrained in their children. We have to fight the urge daily. ;)

My parents grew up in the Depression, at least during their teenage years -- and I think that's why I have so much trouble getting rid of things I don't really need or things that aren't quite right. My mother's voice --"But there's still some GOOD in that" and "You might need that for something." I've become pretty good at squelching the voices, but they are still there.

My mantra - "Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without."

It was a good topic and rather original. I never bother to look at the postage on the things that come to me in the mail but maybe I will start looking to save a few pennies that could add up...yep.

NO. I remember when postage stamps were three cents and post cards a penny.
