Reality is stranger than fiction. Most fictional works and literature are based on real life events. Whether it be folklore, myths or legends there is truth behind every tall tale.

We don't know for sure what reality is, right? We create it for ourselves. Hopefully from our instincts of basic goodness, so that our lives will be positive, and enjoyable. Then our "reality" will be co-creating with our environment...we all are artists co-creating with the universe.

Yeah, literature has to have a sense of the possible. But I don't think you are giving the human mind enough credit. I doubt a giant reptile actually ravaged Tokyo.
