Reflections of My Life

I am attempting once again to sell some items I have to get rid of. On a couple of my fakebook groups. Local pick up only because I do not want to mess with shipping or online payments. I sold for years online on the various sites and just do not care to do that. This is just to get rid of a number of things quickly. I listed the Thermos Cooker yesterday for twenty bucks. It sells for $82. new on Amazon, which is where I bought it. I haven't used it since I moved here. If I sell it, I will try some other items. I have a ton of costume jewelry that is mostly vintage and looks good so will be trying that also.

I cannot believe my eyes.......it is 54 degrees at six in the morning.......in NY.........in February! Amazing! It is raining presently. Not having our usual amount of snow can affect the water in our streams, rivers and lakes. At my previous house we used a shallow well with a pitcher pump and never had it go dry, not even in a hot dry summer. I always attributed that to our heavy snowfalls.

Today my friend is coming up to pick me up and then we are out for the day. Like old times! Her and I used to go on some adventures. We would be gone all day. I think she wishes I was still into the homesteading lifestyle, but this is my life now. She still buys food in bulk and cans it. In fact, she recently overcame her fear and canned ground beef and chicken. I did that for years and tried to get her to try it. She just bought a huge amount of chicken breasts and thighs and has it in her freezer and her daughter's freezer as well. She told me if I need any, just let her know.

We have two empty apartments on our floor, one on the first floor and two on the third. Yesterday our maintenance man told me we have someone new moving in but he didn't know if it was on my floor or downstairs. If it is on our floor, I am keeping my fingers crossed to be a very nice woman.........we are outnumbered on my floor right now. 6 men and 4 women. 2 empty apartments.

Have a good day!

Yes Kat, please tell us about your day out with your friend.
Kat, once you've asked in another thread why there are so many guests in this forum. Well, I was one of them for about three months. During that time I've read your diary almost completely. I've ever liked diaries and biographies.
And yes, I like your new avatar too.

Thank you, @RadishRose and @George1959 for asking about my day as well as like my avatar!

My day went pretty good yesterday. My friend and I just went to Walmart but we were there a long time. Looking at stuff and talking. She had shopping to do for her two granddaughters for Easter too. Then came back to my place and talked some more. This is the first time since I have known her that she does not own any critters. Not even a cat or a dog. She said she wants to be free to not have to get back home by a certain time or stay overnight at her kids' homes on the spur of a moment.

Thank you for taking time to read my diary. I don't really write about any certain subject on it, jut my day to day life. It can be boring to others at time but I figure if someone can find a tidbit of interest in it somewhere I am doing okay. Welcome to my diary! Hope you stick around.

Thank you. I'll do.

I am changing more and more the way I do things. I felt I was pretty much routine in the ways I did certain things. Now I am adapting to new or different methods. I keep saying to myself, "70 is not that old." "My health was not that bad." "Look at what my father was doing in his 90's." Well, my self keeps telling me I have to change the way I do this or that. Or stop doing it period.

Like yesterday I made chicken wings for supper. Well, never again! As much as I love them it is more work than pleasure. Then due to my dental issues, probably even when I have my teeth extracted and dentures, I would most likely still have trouble eating anything that I have to bite into. So cutting the meat off a chicken wing is not worth it. The rest of them that I had put in the freezer will go in a soup pot for sure. In fact, soup is a meal that makes my life much easier and is easy to make. I now buy the skinless chicken thighs for making that. Easier......yes, more expensive. I can afford to spend more on my health and good food is part of that plan.

Kat, you should avoid the word 'not' and better say to yourself "70 is still young" and "my health is becoming better" since the subconscious mind does not know the word 'not'. Affirmations always should to be positive.
Regarding dentures, I may need them soon too. My teeth are a mess, they are crooked since I didn't get orthodontic treatment (retainers) at childhood, they are yellowish, though I never did smoke and I always did clean them carefully. I had a workmate and once we came upon dentures she told me that she got complete dentures (upper and lower jaw) in her early 40s. I had never assumed it. She was glad she did. 20 years ago, I was 43 years old at that time, a dentist also suggested that I get dentures. I hesitated but now I regret it. My aunt got all of her teeth pulled at 80, but never could adapt to her dentures. She was too old. I think at the latest at the age of 60 to 70 years it is time to get them if it is likely that they'll be necessary shortly.
Some years ago I shared a room with a gentleman at a hospital. Before going to sleep, he said "my teeth and I sleep seperated", smiled, went to the bathroom and took his dentures out. Nothing to be embarrassed of. And I remember a movie with Burt Reynolds. At the end he fell in love with a woman and said "when we get old, we'll share all things, our home, our joy, our glass of water for the dentures". She interrupted him and said "for my dentures I'd prefer my own glass".:)

Kat, I only buy boneless, skinless chicken thighs. No waste at all, nice and tender. I've never made wings because it looked like a lot of work for a small reward. Last night I made thighs in the instapot, with something very unusual! Whole radishes! The red color disappeared, the radishes stayed intact, and reminded me of little potatoes, only softer. No spicy taste at all. Radishes are super low carb as well. I would definitely make them again.

One of the things I like about living alone is that if I plan to do something and then change my mind at the last minute it is okay. Nobody to check with! I planned on doing the rest of the laundry today. Since it gray, cloudy and cool today, not leaving my apartment. Instead I am cooking a beef roast in the IP and just doing those little jobs that I am behind on. Grinding coffee beans right now.

Yes, radishes are the substitute on keto for potatoes now. I have not tried them yet.

I only buy the skinless chicken thighs for soup. Otherwise I bake the chicken thighs with the skin in my oven. I love the crusty skin! On keto I really need the extra fat so it makes chicken a good protein source. Sometimes I make the wing sauce for the thighs done in the oven and it is really good that way. I still love wings but restaurant ones for an occasional splurge. They are so expensive now.

Yes! I just roasted some radishes with other veg. First time I tried it and I liked it. I like them raw too.

I roasted some radishes once several years ago. I found them not bad, not great but meh.
Kat I also like baked chicken thighs with the skin on. Too bad I can't get boneless thighs with the skin ON.

You made me want grind some coffee. My beans are not very fresh beans, tho'. :(

Glad you had fun with your friend.

I made my coffee a bit too strong this morning. So taking me longer to finish my first cup than usual. Rabbit is watching me intently. Like he is wondering why it is taking me so long. He is waiting for his banana which he knows he doesn't get until I go in the kitchen for my 2nd cup. It is funny how he can be laying down all stretched out sleeping and then see me get up from my chair and will start running around the room in a circle. Going under my walker, between chair legs, between the dressers and around all the other chairs. Fast. At least then I can relax that he might be 9 years old but seems to be in good health if he can do all that. The excitement of a banana!

Your Rabbit and my wife have something in common. They both like bananas. :)

Today is Wednesday! Seven days left in this month. I keep expecting a blizzard or at least a cold spell. February is never like this. Yesterday Sonny had rain, thunder and snow. I had a little bit of rain but not much. Sunshine too. We are only 25 miles from each other. If I get sunshine today, I am going to try to get outside for awhile.

Hopefully today I will make a few batches of Keto Chow replacement shakes for ice cream. I haven't had any for a couple of weeks. Then some chaffles. Well, two batches of those. I put off making them because they use 3 eggs in each batch and I was trying to be frugal with the eggs. But there is no shortage of eggs around here. The price is still more than it used to be but have come down to about $3.46.

I am making an effort to use up the ranch seasoned pork rinds (they are crushed) because I don't really care for them. I like original flavor which is not flavored at all. Then I can add my own flavoring. I need to remind myself to not buy things that are flavored or seasoned.

My list is big today but I will not be doing everything on it today. Little by little.

Well, what did I say yesterday morning about expecting a blizzard or at the very least a snowstorm? We got one yesterday. Not a blizzard and then snow is not a huge amount. The snow removal guy was here at 3 and now it sounds like wet snow or rain.

Yesterday I did not get my chaffles made because I had 3 visitors had various times during the day. My friend downstairs does not have a computer (or knows how to use one) so she came up to have me order gel pens for her. When I first moved here she said she did not like computers and would make out orders from catalogs and mail a check. Since the first time I ordered something online for her, she was hooked! What a difference to be able to look for the color of the pens she wanted in Amazon's vast inventory! I don't mind doing it for her. She will give me the cash on Friday when they get here.

The neighbor on the other side of me is moving. I can't say I will miss him. He has been pretty grumpy ever since the first time Sonny came here. They just did not get along. I will say he has been nicer ever since the elevator crisis. I will miss his dog but other than that I do not have much interaction with him He is quiet though and does not complain about my television being on after eleven (if I am up at that time which is rare anymore). Saying a prayer we get 3 nice new tenants on our floor. (I just noticed I used the number 3 in each of my 3 paragraphs in this post. Wonder if that means anything?)

I enjoyed my day with Sonny yesterday. Sad to see him on oxygen now. He carries it with him using this little portable unit. It makes a noise. So when we were watching a video on the television and he was in the recliner and I was in the chair, Rabbit decided to sneak up on it. Must have thought it was alive or something. It was funny and I wish I could have videoed it. He wanted to smell it but was very cautious.

His grandson, who is his son's son has began calling Sonny pretty regular now. He asked Sonny if he minded if he called him and of course, he said no. He loves to talk on the phone! Sonny's son does not stay in contact with any member of the family, including his own son! So Sonny was picking him up when he left here yesterday to take him to his house for the week-end. He lives in a group home and has been wanting contact with his family, his father's family. I believe his mother sees him or at least talks to him.
