Since January, I have really put a dent in my debt. Half of my SS check was going for that. I did not want to have any late payments ever and I have not. Never did. The thing that was causing me to not get it down much was Amazon and Walmart (online). I took my credit cards off those sites for good. Now I only use my debit card when buying on either site. If there is something I want to buy I put it in my budget which I write out by hand every month. If it is more money than I can afford, I put part of it in the budget every month (and do not touch it!) until I have the total cost of it.
I am writing out the April budget sheet today. By September I will have paid off another card and also have more than $600 put away for my emergency fund. I have never been able to do this before. The key was to stop using the cards over and over. "Snowballing" the payments on the debt has been a positive experience for me.
Once these debt bills are paid off, it will be like my income has doubled. I have been paying more to them than my living expenses. Not ever doing this again.
