Reflections of My Life

I am so happy........found the perfect lampshade at the thrift store! It was $6.91 compared to a hundred bucks on Amazon or eBay!! This one is in perfect shape. I looked it all over to make sure. As soon as my friend left, I put it on my lamp. Cleaned off the computer table and then put the lamp on it. Perfect! Nice to have a lamp on the table instead of using the overhead light all the time.

We went to eat at a diner that used to be good. It has changed ownership and names since the first owner closed it up during COVID. Very expensive! I had a western omelet with tiniest cubes of ham I ever saw...........$10.00. I do not think they used 3 eggs but if they did they must have been the small eggs. Well, we had to eat somewhere and the Chinese restaurant is closed for some reason. One good thing about it is that I was able to stay on my keto food plan. I feel good about that.

I want to replace 2 beds in my house.. they're good beds and not very old, .. but with one the gas lift has stopped working . I want to change rooms completely , decorate and move my bed into a different room.. but I have to find someone who can move these very heavy things out of my house

In the states if you order a new bed they will take the old one away for free. The same thing with appliances. When I bought my condo I bought a sleep number bed that has an adjustable head. It made a huge difference to be able to have my head elevated when I am sick because of my asthma.

I had a sleep number when I was married and as long as you can still get parts they never wear out. It was 20 years old and still perfectly comfortable but it was a king and I needed a queen for my bedroom if I wanted to put other furniture in it. They are expensive but worth it because of how long they last.

very few companies take the beds or the appliances away when we buy new ones.. and those that do price their goods to cover the removal of the old ones..

Meet "Rabbit" My House Rabbit Companion

Where I live we are allowed to have one pet with no deposit, as long as you have a doctor's slip. My doctor asked me what to write and he wrote it out. If you have another pet, you have to pay $100. deposit on that one. Rabbit is quiet and doesn't make any noise, unless he hears an unusual noise, then he gives me the rabbit warning sign of stomping both back feet loudly.

I never planned to have a rabbit much less a "house rabbit" at the time I got him, I had 3 horses and 2 cats. My other animals had died off by then. In 2014, my husband came in the house from the barn to tell me there was a rabbit in the barn. When he said it was white, I asked if it was a cat and he thought it was a rabbit. I thought that because we had a stray tomcat that came to our house and acted like he lived there, so I thought it was him. I went out to the barn with him and yes, there was a white rabbit!

He was digging around in the hay and didn't seem to be scared of us. But if I tried to get near him, he scooted out of sight. He had made a bed hidden under a pallet of hay. Now I have been writing and attending homesteading events for some time so I was familiar with rabbits. My brother had one as a pet when we were kids but she was kept outside in a shed. I sat on the bench watching him and I instant fell in love with this little guy! When I saw his side though..........it was clear that an owl had picked him up somewhere and he must have gotten away somehow. He had marks on his side. I wanted to doctor him, but he would not let me that near him.

He ended up living out there from Sept to early Feb. Some nights he'd go off and wouldn't come back for 2 or 3 days. I'd go crazy with worrying knowing something would get him. We lived in the middle of the state forest and there were a lot of coyotes and other critters out there. I heard owls every night and baby rabbits screaming right after that hoo hoo. So I was scared and wanted to bring him inside if I could get a hold of him. Plus that was a very cold winter with temps -26.

Well he healed on his own. Eventually, I caught him (but that is another story to tell) and brought him inside. I researched online about caring for a pet rabbit and discovered the world of "House Rabbits" and that is what he is. I had him neutered and he uses a litter box, but I didn't even have to teach him. Pretty much like a cat, just did it. When I moved from my house, I took him with me and he is the talk of the apartment complex. Everyone calls me "the rabbit lady." But lots of people have house rabbits, just not here.

Well, some companies will do that but not all. I already know what bed I am going to buy and it is on Amazon. The local store prices are too expensive for me. My friend downstairs bought from one of those stores that sell beds and mattresses only and her bed was over $3000. They did take her old one away, but at that price I guess it may be included in the bed cost somewhere.

My biggest problem will be getting the bed delivery upstairs to my apartment.

Now that I'm a widow, I have more things to move, carry, etc. and recently, I decided to move the queen bed from the guest room to my bedroom and take down the 2 twin beds hubby and I had been sleeping on.

I bought the queen mattress from Amazon last year when his daughter and her husband visited us. It hasn't been used since. I needed to make our bedroom my own. Moving that queen mattress by myself was an ordeal! It was bulky and heavy! I finally got it so I could push it across the hall to my bedroom and flop it on the bed frame. It was a workout!

I've slept really well on it. I don't have a backache when I get up. It's a firm mattress and I like it. I got it on Amazon and didn't pay much for it. We use to spend a lot of money on mattresses from stores but they never held up. Nothing holds up any more. We live in a "disposable" world.

Maybe there's a church youth group that helps elderly and disabled people with things. Have you checked that out?

You'll be sleeping on a cloud when you get it. Now you've got me thinking about how nice it would be to have a nice comfy mattress again. I've been meaning to flip it but it's really time for a new one. My body deserves a little extra comfort 🤗
 
my wife died unexpectedly like your husband Colleen.its hard to change things.we slept in different because of my snoring.she had a newer mattress and I slept on a futon.so I put her mattress in my room .she liked paintings and flowery decor.i am more of a minimalist so almost bare walls.so eventually you will change things to how you like it.it has taken me awhile.but the good memories will never change.
 
Sonny, my boyfriend, bought an adjustable bed from Amazon about two years ago. He loves it! He almost bought one at a bed store and it was 3 times the price of the one on Amazon. He bought the mattress at Walmart's online site because it was less money. From what he and others have said is the mattress comes compressed in a box and when you take it out of the box it inflates itself over a few hours.

The heavy part is the bed frame which on an adjustable bed might be pretty heavy. I am getting a twin size so that should be less. I would not have a problem if when it was delivered they bring into the lobby of our building. Then I could slide it into the elevator to my floor. From there I am right across the hall from the elevator. It depends on if our new maintenance man is the type to help us doing things that are "not his job" or not. Then I could get him to help.

My goal this year is to get my apartment updated as far as my furniture and ease of getting around with a walker is.

The beds I want taking out of my house are very heavy indeed..they're Ottoman Gas lift beds...

Here it's the same...the delivery companies very often state they will only deliver to the street door. That's bad enough in a house like mine, and I have to get it upstairs alone.. .. but when you live in an apartment like you Kat.. and my ex husband who lives on the top floor and no lift...it's shameful of them

the beds are no use as storage beds because one of them needs re-gassing.... and anyway I want to replace both of them with beds where I can just store stuff underneath... I don't want leather bedheads anymore.. i want something better..maybe wooden sleigh beds.. not sure yet. Ironically both mattresses are in very good condition but again no use to me because the next beds ( one bed is all I'm having).. is going to be smaller.
 
Bigger is not always better. Easier to make is better for sure. I can make mine in there minutes flat. Although I often don't bother unless expecting company. Like to keep it ready in case I gets feeling nappy 😊
