Reflections of My Life

We had some snow here during the night. I have not looked out my windows so don't know how much has accumulated. I hear the snow plows working outside. On the streets, parking lots and our driveway and parking lot. The snow removal guy who comes here has to get out of his truck and use the snowblower that is kept in a shed next to our building. He has to clean off our ramp and stairs also. So he is out there making a lot of noise.

I see Rabbit's ears on alert. He hears this noise often in the early morning hours. But he does not know what is making all that noise. Even if I held him up to the window he would not be able to see what it was. Or understand what it was doing. Being a prey animal he is very aware of every noise in and outside of our building. He hears things way before I do. His ears are his lifeline and more important to a rabbit than his eyes.

I worry that I have kept him inside for all these years. Since 2015. No fresh air. At my house he lived with wood smoke, kerosene lamps, batteries charging, etc. After we moved here in 2018 he didn't have any of that but still not much fresh air unless the windows were open in good weather. But he has lived to be 10 years old this year. That is good for a rabbit. He is a strong bunny and went through some tough stuff in the beginning.

I had planned to do my laundry today.........nope. Instead I organized my kitchen cupboards. It was a job I have been putting off. I have some things to get rid of. Even so, I still cannot reach beyond the first shelf in the cupboards. So I am still trying to figure all that out but got tired and need to get my feet up. I wore my stockings all day but never.......not even once today put my feet up. I may regret that tomorrow morning. I shall see.

I visited my neighbor across the hall for a bit today. She is the lady who's daughter died on Christmas Eve. Her daughter lived upstairs. She has lived here for many years.........not sure if is 30 or more. Anyway I always like spending time with her. I ordered gel pens for her on Amazon and they were delivered today. So I am sure she is coloring tonight.

Have a good night, my friends.

I just now got back in from taking my walk to the dumpster. Sun is shining and felt good. I would have stayed out longer but my hair was still damp from my shower. I had my hood up to cover it the best I could. My garbage bag was heavy due to cleaning out my cupboards so I did not want to have Jeff carry it. He goes down the stairs and I was afraid of him being careless with it and the bag tearing. So I did it before he came here because I didn't want him to think I didn't trust him to do it properly.

Now I am having another cup of coffee and I think before I start on any chores I will color and watch my friend's wildlife videos from her yard. I have really gotten into watching them every day. Now I lived in a much deeper forest than she lives in and probably had as many critters around me. But I had no wish of luring them to my yard and house. She has about 4 bear that come to her yard almost daily. Nope, not for me. One murdered my cat but even before that I did not want bears coming to my house. They will break into your house or your truck if they want. I was lucky my horses kept them and the coyotes away.

When I make my coffee in the morning, I take the meat for supper out of the freezer to thaw. Sometimes I take out something I don't really want to eat later but usually do. At least I always have something to cook already to go. This morning I took out beef tips and will make it like a stir fry in the skillet on the stove top. I usually add broccoli, mushrooms and seasonings. For breakfast I will have bacon and eggs.

Around 2:00 AM this morning, the emergency squad came to our building. That is nothing new but they did get off the elevator at my floor. I think they went to the apartment next to me. That couple is fairly new having moved in around Thanksgiving. I don't think they took anyone out so maybe one of them fell which has happened before.

I do see those alert things people wear in case they fall are a good thing. Two different friends in my building have fallen and could not get up and having that saved them. Both of them fell near their beds so I think wearing them to bed is good to do. The only thing about it is that you have to have a landline phone so you have to pay for that and for the alert as well. It might not be like that everywhere but if you are getting medicaid they will cover that for you but not the phone.

Around three this morning, my sweet bunny boy woke me up with his loud chewing on the cardboard I have wrapped around the bottom of the dressers. He has been doing this on a daily basis and it is driving me crazy. Yes, he is adorable and sweet.............and usually silent! So instead of getting mad at him, I just picked him up and put him in his cage and locked the door. I went back to sleep and I suppose he did too. I will do this from now on when he starts doing the chewing during the night when I am sleeping.

I know he has to chew. He has wolf teeth like a horse. Constantly growing and he needs to chew to keep them down. That is why hay with long stringy weeds is good for rabbits. I have plenty of toys and chew things for him to chew on. He used to like to chew on firewood logs at my house. But here I have no way to get any. Sonny brought me one that had bugs in it so I won't ask him again. I keep thinking he is doing this because it is noisy and that it is a way to wake me up or get my attention. It does.

That does sound irritating. It would wake me up too, I am a light sleeper. We have two cats who need to claw everything to keep their claws in good shape, I know...but. The furniture and the wood work are a constant battle with them to keep them from ruining stuff. My cats get fed at 2 am because I feed them 4 times a day, small meals. When they are being bad they start scratching at my door at 1am! THAT is very irritating. They should be patient kitties, right? :) I love our pets!

Yes, cats do that. I am really a "cat person" and just ended up with Rabbit by accident. My experience with cats is that they will train YOU to do what they want you to do. I always loved their independent personalities.

Kind of a yucky day here today. I have not been out of my apartment and don't plan on it either. My Amazon delivery came by UPS and they normally just drop my packages outside in front of the lobby doors. Nope, they delivered it right to my apartment door! I am surprised and very happy.

After I cleaned my bunny's cage, I put my feet up and watched some videos from my recliner. I almost fell asleep! I never take a nap so that surprised me. Now I am starting my supper of beef tips with broccoli and mushrooms. I made enough for three meals.

I miss the birds, even the winter ones, from my house. Having lived here now for almost six years you would think I forgot how they sounded. But no. I can close my eyes and hear them. The only birds I hear now are the crows. And they sound aggressive and angry. My neighbor's cat, Connor hurries to get in her window when he hears them. She said he will watch them for as long as they are there and even after they have gone.

Even though I have some good memories of living at my previous home, I remind myself of all the things that made me miserable. Like no running water, having limited electric and none in the evenings, wood stoves (and dust and dirt from them........plus smoke at times) and most important no freedom to do what I wanted when I wanted. So no, the birds and walking in the forest is not worth the sacrifice. I made the right choice to leave.

This morning I am feeling lazy. If the weather holds up and stays dry I might take "Jazzy" to the Grand Union. The walk yesterday to the hair salon felt good. It was cool but not really cold. I forgot my phone so I hoped the whole time nothing would happen to me along the way or in the elevator. It is the one reason I like having a phone. Talking on it......not so much. I am not a telephone person.

Last night was the 2nd night of Rabbit not chewing on the cardboard that surrounds my dressers. I think he has learned I don't want him to do that. If he starts to do it now, I just raise my voice a bit and say no and he stops and runs to his cage. Who said you can't teach an old rabbit to do new tricks???? He is really very smart.

Yesterday my hay delivery came from Amazon shipped by UPS. I was SO surprised when I heard a bump outside my door............the delivery guy brought it right to my door!!! Usually I have to lug it in the front doors and to the elevator and up here. This is about the 3rd delivery I have gotten in recent weeks that was delivered to my door. So maybe they had a change in delivery guys or in policy. Whatever......I love it! I like whatever makes it easier for me. Not easy not being able to do things on your own that you used to be able to do.

I was able to drive Jazzy to the store. I got Rabbit some spring mix, berries and a banana. For me I got 2 lbs. ground beef and a small steak. When I got home I picked through the spring mix to remove all the bad leaves and all the spinach. I do that every time I buy it. Then put it in my produce keepers and he is all set. It was nice to be out and about. I missed being outside.

Last night I started watching Northern Exposure on Prime. I have never seen it before and it was something I always planned to watch. I watched the first two episodes on season one. I always check to be sure I will be able to see all seasons and episodes before I start watching it. Too many will give you an episode or a season and then nothing more. I bought the first season of St. Elsewhere and then found out the rest of the series is not available........not anywhere! Made me so mad!

I wonder if you could find it on eBay?

Snowed last night and woke up to the early morning snowplows. One in the city parking lot and one doing our driveways here. Such noise! I guess my bunny boy is used to it. Doesn't even wake him up. If it warms up a bit later, I will have to make the walk to the dumpster. Other than that I am inside for the day.

Saturday I drove Jazzy to the Grand Union. I had that one mishap on the railroad tracks where it got stuck on the track but it started right back up and I went on my way. No other problems all the way home. Yesterday I wanted to move it (because I keep it in my bathroom next to the shower) so I could take my shower. It would not turn on. Didn't even light up. The batteries could not be down because I keep it charged at all times.

So I hooked up the charger and the light that comes on from the chair did not even light up............darn it! I watched a bunch of YT videos about it. It is most likely in the controller. So I have to wait for Sonny to bring a volt meter here to test it for me. The guy in the video opened up the controller and cleaned the contacts with contact cleaner and then his started. So maybe Sonny can do that for me. I am not mechanically inclined so I need him to do this for me. Luckily I can squeeze into the shower in that little space between Jazzy and the shower.

Yesterday, two of our tenants vacuumed the whole building. All three hallways, the lobby and maybe the public rooms downstairs. Not sure about the public rooms.....community room, laundry room, storage room and puzzle room as I have not been down there. They are the same two that shoveled the snow. Glad they are helping out as not many people who live here can do that.

With our maintenance man quitting his job so suddenly back in December, it is hard for the new guy to start the job with no one to learn the job from. He is very young, as I said before. He has SIX apartments that need to be redone before they can be rented. Two are probably a big job. To top it off he has at least three other buildings in different places to work at during the week. Our maintenance man did all the cleaning, prepping apartments for new people, managed the snow removal (a company that does it), mowed the grass and all our repairs. And he was very good at his job and dependable and had worked here for 10 years.

This morning I am making Keto Chow (meal replacement shakes) shakes to keep in the refrigerator. I will use one for a meal sometime during the day. I studied my macros yesterday and see that I am not getting enough fat or protein. By adding one shake a day will help me meet that goal. Then I will do laundry and while that is downstairs I will do the vacuuming (which takes a whole 5 minutes usually).

I forgot to tell you.......I pushed the button on "Jazzy" and it turned on for a minute! I could not get it to turn on again but at least that gave me hope. So this morning I plugged in the battery charger and the red light came on from Jazzy. So I have it charging right now and if I turn it on the lights light up on the controller. So maybe it was the batteries or something happened when I hit the bump on the tracks. I don't know but I am hopeful about it today. I love Jazzy!

fingers crossed Kat..🤞

I should never write down what I am going to do until I have done it. I write a list but it is ongoing so if I do not do what is on my list that day I just keep it there until I do. Yesterday though, I did my laundry. Not towels and bedding, clothing and Rabbit's blanket only. Not saying if I will do it today or not. Soon.

Today I will get my rent paid and then write out my budget sheet for February. I usually do it earlier than this but I put it off. I am also thinking of walking to the ATM at the bank to get some cash for Jeff. It is not that far, just cold. I can stand it though. I used to walk in the forest in below zero weather and I enjoyed it. Course it is harder to walk now. I do not like to get "Jazzy's" wheels and underneath wet or dirty. Bad enough with the walker. Bringing that street dirt into my apartment.
