Reflections of My Life

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak to the new "Office Assistant" on the telephone. Unfortunately, it was not a friendly call. I had been doing my laundry and when I came back upstairs after putting a load in the washer and two loads in the dryer...........the elevator scared me to death! Yes, again! It came to my floor and then slammed down about 3 times roughly! Then the door would not open. I pushed every button I could. Finally.......it opened. I already had my phone in my hand and had the office phone ringing, but managed to get out. I was shaking. It is so scary when this happens. They put a call in to the repair company and hopefully they will come today.

But the thing was..........I had to take it back downstairs again because my laundry was in the machines. So I took my kindle with me and figured I would read until everything was dry. Well, one of the guys who lives downstairs was down there and I ended up talking to him the whole time. Then he and I went to get on the elevator and it took a long time to get there and then the door opened in slow motion and only opened half way. He pushed it open but I told him to tell the people in the office since the office door was open and I could hear them talking. He did. Good to get another person mentioning it to them again.

He rode up to my floor with me so I felt better. He was not afraid at all. Men are like that I guess. Not afraid of anything. I am just not the dare devil type.

I planned on driving Jazzy to the Grand Union because Rabbit needed more greens and berries and I badly need eggs. So yes, I was going to pay almost five bucks for a carton of a dozen eggs. Instead, Sonny offered to take me to Walmart. So I am ready and waiting for him. He will be here soon. He has to work at the Go-Kart race today so he has to be on his way there, to Owego right after I finish shopping.

I got back from the store a few hours ago. Just put my feet up and been watching a special "live" from Ramsey Solutions. I am proud to be in the process of his debt snowball. Ever since I paid off 3 debts earlier this year, I am getting e-mails and snail mail offers. Wanting to give me rewards and transfers. Even my credit union sends me a message to check out the loan application on their site because I am eligible for another loan. No thank you! The only way I can increase my income is by paying all my debt off. I still have 3 credit cards I am paying down and cannot wait to get rid of them. Key has been using a budget and not buying anything unless I have put it in my budget.

My parents never had credit. Paid cash for everything. When my mother died the funeral director asked my father how he wanted to pay for it. He said, "You take cash?" His eyebrows went up (my father did not drive a new car, pretty old car but in good condition. Did not look like he had a lot of money.). The next day my father was back with the cash..........paid for my mother's funeral and burial and his own at the same time. Plus he paid all her hospital bills that were not covered by Medicare.

A number of years before my mother died, she stopped using the supplemental insurance. They kept raising the rates. So she just saved what she used to pay for that and used that to cover whatever Medicare did not cover. She was bedridden those last years and did not go to the doctor often, but at least once a year for her prescriptions. Yeah, I learned a lot from my mother but did not apply it when I was married because I didn't have the power to do so. The advantage of being single is that I can do it now, even though it is almost too late.

Proverbs 22:7 ~
The rich rules over the poor,
And the borrower becomes the lender’s slave.

After my morning walk and breakfast this morning, I made cornbread flavored chaffles (no cheese). Two batches gave me 16 for the freezer. A serving is 2. Earlier I made keto chow and put two in the freezer for ice cream for tomorrow and the next day. Two are in the refrigerator since I only have room for two at a time in the freezer. Has to be frozen for 24 hours for my ice cream maker.

Now I am eating supper at my computer. An Italian Burger Bowl. I made a big pan of it so I will have enough for about 3 days.

It seems that Sonny's health has perked up.........along with racing season, of course. Friday and Saturday he worked at the go-kart track. He planned on racing instead but needed another part and besides it was kind of hot for him. One driver gave him a hard time over something and Sonny (who likes to use his authority) told him to do what he says and stop mouthing off or he won't be in the line up at all. The guy jumped out of his car and threatened to fight him.........Sonny loves this response! He told the guy come on, "If I beat your butt you will look like a fool. If you beat mine, you will look like a bigger fool for beating up a 71 year old man." The guy got back in his car and did what he was told.

It cooled off a little and has been raining......one of those gentle spring time rains that I love. I can even hear birds singing now. I am pretty happy that my feet are not swelled up as much as they had been. I have to remind myself to be consistent and stick to my self-care program. Put on those compression stockings every morning. Use the air compression foot massager every evening. Last night I forgot about it and was doing my night time routine before I go to bed and remembered I hadn't done that treatment yet. I stopped what I was doing and did the treatment first.

I ate my burger bowl this morning for my breakfast. So I guess I will have bacon and eggs for supper. Just didn't feel like standing in the kitchen cooking.

Rabbit has been getting himself in trouble this morning. Keeps wanting to chew on the old cedar chest. I had to put a big piece of cardboard around it and that seems to have worked at least for now. When I first moved here I had to do that with all the wood furniture. Not so much now. I hadn't been able to find him a piece of firewood but if I can that is what he likes to chew on best of all.

Yesterday, I was talking to my friend on the phone and someone was knocking on my door.......it was Sonny! He surprised me. He bought a little trailer (photo above) to use with his mobility chair for a hundred bucks. So he wanted to show it to me. He was feeling good and like the old Sonny. Not even using the oxygen though he carries it in his car just in case.

We had a nice time together for awhile. By the time he left it was dark. I took pictures of his little trailer. It is good for someone that has a hitch on their vehicle. Not sure if or when he will use the new mobility chair. He has only used the mobility scooter with me, cruising around my little city while I am on Jazzy. It was fun. I posted the picture of it on fakebook and his friends had fun picking on him about little trailer.

I have been making it a point to use all the food or what I refer to as ingredients in the cupboard. I have to look at it and add or remove it from my ongoing list of what is in my cupboards and refrigerator. Not buying more until this is all gone. The refrigerator and freezer is always current because I see it daily.

I am also doing that same thing with my gel pens that I use for my coloring books. Not buying even one pen till I have used every one I have with the exception of the colors I never use....black, grays, flesh, etc. I save all the pens and throw out the used up refill. So when I buy new, I only need to buy refills. Doing the same with the coloring books. No new ones till I have colored every picture in the books I have.

I am going to make an effort today to change my day a bit. Often I have said that I don't like to follow a schedule or a routine but maybe I am wrong about that. Maybe I should have one. Usually I clean my bunny's cage around two. Then prepare supper about four. Depending on how long that takes I become rushed toward the end of the day. Last night I could not finish washing two pans and have to do them this morning. How could that be? Two pans! The cage only takes about 20 minutes at the most usually less. Mornings is when I have the most energy and can do more.

Seems to me when I do not have a schedule or routine, I lose my day. All of a sudden it is late and I have to rush to do things or not do them. When I worked in nursing homes I learned early to follow a routine. Then my residents instinctively followed my routine and when I wasn't there whoever took care of them started following my routine because it was easier. Pets or livestock are the same way. My horses were always confused when the time changed and we were still going by a clock and they weren't.

I guess I have to call that agency back and try another aide out. I am so tired of them but need them to get the dental stuff done. Vision too. So will make appointments today. Sonny said he will change his if there is a conflict.

Kat , I don't understand why you find yourself rushing at the end of the day to finish up something like washing 2 pans.. ! I''m a little confused. Is there a reason you have to rush to get them done ? can't you just casually do them at the end of the day ?...

I find myself rushing to get off my feet. Last night, I could not finish by washing them.

If they are suitable or not.........that is the question. They said they might have someone. I will see. I swear I am always nice to them and don't give them too much work. They just don't want to work I guess.
I absolutely believe you're always nice to them, you're just a nice person we know that already.. and having just a studio, there's not going to be a huge amount for them to do so you're not overworking them..

I am looking forward to today because my orders from Amazon are supposed to be delivered today. I ordered the knee brace that Michael Z recommended and hoping for good results. Anything I can do to make them not hurt would be an improvement. As of yet, I do not take any prescriptions for pain. Occasionally Tylenol for Arthritis. So I am looking forward to trying this and praying that my measurements were correct.

I also ordered three cookbooks.........paper ones! I rarely order books that are not eBooks but I wanted these as physical books. This author has the YouTube channel All Day I Dream About Food. Her recipes are simple and easy to do. And good! I usually print out the recipes but I want these in the book form. I seem to misplace my paper copies if I don't put them back in my notebook.

Today our apartments here are going to be inspected for bedbugs. I suspect I have them because I have 2 unexplained bites on my leg. Because of having Lymphedema, I have to be very careful about getting bites or cuts. Plus I want to replace my bed with a adjustable single bed and wouldn't want to go to that expense if I have bedbugs. The guy down the hall was sprayed for them about two weeks ago and they said he was infested. Had to throw out a lot of his things. Someone else downstairs (I think) had them too. So doing this today.

First of all, Rich did not find any sign of bedbugs.......I showed him my bites. He then looked more closely at the recliner since that is where I sleep (bedbugs will go where you sleep, it is your oxygen that attracts them to you). He thought he saw some of the casings (their discarded skin) on the edge of it but said it could have been there from before (yeah, I had them before but was too embarrassed to tell you all). So I am not going to vacuum the chairs at all or clean them off so when Dave, the bug guy comes on Monday he can check them out professionally.

Today, I went to the park. Took pictures and just walked around. It was a beautiful day.

Then all day, I waited anxiously for my Amazon delivery. Unfortunately it came by UPS, which is the worst of all three service. Yesterday I got a bale of hay which was heavy and UPS delivered it at the top of the stairs near the door going inside. That is the way it should be. Today my box was set at the bottom of the stairs........so I had to walk down steep stairs (backwards, I have to go down backwards) to retrieve it. Then come back up. I was not happy. My knees are in horrible pain and have been ever since I came back up the stairs.

Now I am getting ready to have a burger bowl for my supper. Sun is still shining and presently it is 82 degrees.
