Reflections of My Life

The little park on the corner is tucked in between buildings, the street and sidewalk. It is shady and the fountain keeps it cool. Very relaxing to sit there and watch everything going on. This is the busiest corner in town.

The coolest spot in Norwich!

That circle and fountain wasn’t there when I lived there. At lunch time we would run through the park to Pringle’s cigar store, now GArfs I believe. Double scoop of Velvet vanilla swirl ice cream cone for 20 cents. Get back just in time for class again.

The last two mornings it has been very hot when I wake up. The outside temperature is only 55 and I usually wait till it is 62 or above before turning on the air conditioner. I do that because that is what it said to do in the instructions that came with it. It says it could ice up and not work. So I never wanted to take the chance. But yesterday I did turn it on before it got to that temperature because it was (and is today also) very hot in my apartment. Yet I do see people who go to sleep with their air conditioner on and don't turn it off at all. I don't do that because I don't like it blowing on me. Well pretty soon I will turn it on.

I might go to the Grand Union this morning to get a few things. Since it is Sunday they won't be working on the street so it won't be as dusty. That dust along with the smoke in the air and it being hot is hard to take when I go to the store. The park across the street behind the library is the only place to go that is quiet and not so smokey and dusty.

This is my new wall hanging or tapestry (people call it different things). It is polyester and very light with a silky feel to it. I would have liked to wash it before I hung it so I could get the folds out of it but our washing machines are having issues so I skipped doing that. I think they will hang out or maybe I should buy a steamer for clothing and do it while it is hanging. I will see.

Here it is as it looks over my table. I like the lighter colors in it for a change as I usually choose bright colors.

It felt pretty hot by the time I finished my first cup of coffee. I checked the temperature and it was 66. So I turned on the air conditioner. I can feel my feet start to swell as soon as I feel hot. Put on the compression stockings and it is like magic. Not hot and don't feel that tight swelling feeling anymore. They really work.

It's 66 outside here currently Kat... the rain has stopped... but it's 76 deg in the house, so I'm sitting here wearing a sleeveless top, capris and the window wide open to catch the breeze..... no AC here as everyone knows..

I woke up at 6:00am to loud thunder and very heavy rain. It lasted about 30 minutes, then it got so hot! It's not yet noon and we just had another thunderstorm! Just like that, poured for ten minutes, and now it's blue skies and the thunder is moving away from here. I don't have AC, either. Right now it's not too bad.

Yesterday I got to the grocery store on Jazzy and when I came out I felt a few raindrops. Made it back home before it rained. Twice yesterday I had to unplug everything till the storm was over. I figure the lower level in my building might have gotten a bit of flooding since it always does if it pours hard. Our streets got flooded and I hear Greene did too. It is either too dry or we get a storm with flooding. Whatever happened to those all day gentle rains? I liked them.

We have been getting new people moving into the building lately. Filling those apartments that were sitting empty for months. One guy took the "Welcome to the neighborhood" a bit too far. He has taken to knocking on one of the ladies' door all hours of the day and night. She made the mistake the first time he came to her door and asked her to cook his bag of meat that he held up to show her. She told him to cook it in his own apartment and he said it was too hot up there. So she let him in and cooked it for him. After that he kept coming back. She is in her 80's and a sweet little lady and used to sit in the lobby every day and talk to everyone. Now she won't leave her apartment. He came here recently from jail (said he was there for 4 months for stealing a car but says he didn't steal it). Another tenant took her down to the office to report it so I hope it all done with.

I can imagine what that poor lady felt after he kept returning!

I feel bad for her now not being able to sit in the lobby. That was her thing. Now this guy has ruined it for her. Lately they have rented apartments to men who appear to be questionable. One guy is panhandling in front of Walmart every day. He has to sit out there all day in that hot sun. He is up by the corner where the cars pull out onto the road. And he drove there on his mobility chair! It is at least 2 miles away on a very busy road.

Just be careful. I hope at least they don't drink and get stupid.

Whatever the temperature is, it is too hot for me. July & August have always been the two months I dislike the most. When I was married to my first husband we would stay several times through out the summer at The Concord Hotel in the Catskills. Our first week-end would be the 4th of July and the last Labor Day week-end. Several times in between with a couple weeks long stay for my son and me. I didn't mind it so much back then. That was in the late seventies and eighties. We also spent time on Long Island and some of it out on Fire Island. Going to the beach daily during the hot part of the summer was fun and of course, I was much younger than. Weather did not bother me so much.

Now I stay inside when it is hot. If I had a car I could drive to one of the nearby parks or forest. Living in the forest is cooler too and I would spend hours out in the forest when I was living at my house. Of course at my house, I did not have the luxury of air conditioning and we did not even turn it on in our truck. We just weren't used to it so didn't even think about it. Now I feel sorry for the people in the other apartments who do not have it. I understand there is a cost there on your electric bill but most of the people who live here have HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program). So it does not affect me. Just the initial cost an air conditioner. New York state now has a program within HEAP to pay for a new air conditioner and installation of it. Many people do not know about that.

I finally got my blog post finished. Always it is the pictures that take longer than the writing. Trying to decide which picture to use where. I try to put one on each paragraph. My own pictures only. Sometimes I use a picture I took of a plant, tree or flower even though it has nothing to do with the text. That is just what I do. I want all the pictures to be my own.

New blog post, Rev Up Your Daily Life

I was all ready to take my garbage out but boy it looks SO hot out there. I will wait till the sun moves to the other side of our building. If I owned this place, I would make that square of the backyard be a big garden with a gate so nobody could sneak in at night. Many people here wish they could work in a garden and that would be ideal.

I think it would be good for some of the men. They move here after having a house and having to care for everything that goes along with that. Here, what do they do? Make a small meal and clean up. Watch television, read and some might have a computer or phone. I think it might be harder for men to adjust to living in a senior living apartment than for a woman. We can make the apartment a home. It just seems that we adjust to this faster or better than the men do.

My neighbor across the hall goes out on his bicycle with a his friend who has one too. They are gone all day. Going to the thrift stores and other stores and food places. Then comes back later and I don't hear a sound from him. At least he is out and about most days. Now he has an aide (though he says he don't need one......he does) and maybe things are easier for him. But most of the men here do not do that. They are inside. Probably bored.

Hi Katlupe, I visited your blog and enjoyed it very much! I made a comment also. Keep it going. The photos were very good and your writing was inspiring! (Patty)

That is beautiful! It feels like a spring garden in your home.

I love the wall hanging! I would have chosen that for myself.

"Today is your day. What are you going to do about it?" ~ Dale Carnegie

This quote is how I am going to start my day every day. Of course, every day I have some daily chores to do. But I am also going to include some other activities on my plan for the day. Today I really have to get my laundry done. I am keeping it to smaller loads since it makes it easier. If I do things in little steps I can do it easier. So I do some chore, then sit down and put my feet up for a bit. While I am sitting I read or color. I like to do my cleaning chores with music on. Queen really gets me working! Today I will also write at least two pages on my story.

Right now I am making a grocery list to order with Instacart. I could always go to the Grand Union but they are so darn expensive. Walmart delivery is not available where I live so eventually (when it cools down a bit) I want to take the bus there and see how I do. And Walmart does not work with Instacart so they lose out on a lot of sales right there. I can order from Aldi's or Price Chopper. Probably will do Price Chopper since I need spring mix for Rabbit that is not packed with spinach. He does not like it. So I end up going through the whole container picking the spinach out and throwing it away.

I was doing Intermitten Fasting with my eating window from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. But I was not getting enough food. I just cannot eat if I am not hungry and on Keto I am not that hungry. So I am going to try eating earlier and not worry about the time except not eating after 7:00 PM. I track my food on Cronometer not really tracking the macros but I can tell I am not getting enough by using it. So going to make up some Keto Chow for ice cream meals.

I was looking on some of the car sites for a car for Sonny. He wants to buy a new to him car. His car is dying but he drives a lot and puts on a lot of miles. So the poor car didn't last. He had it when I met him which was five years ago. I will be sad because I really liked that car and had good memories of it. It seems that men (at least the ones that were in my life) never had feelings for their cars like I do. One thing I learned..........cars are SO expensive now! I am happy that I did not cave in and get a car when I moved here. Best thing I ever did. I am going to solve my transportation problems so I don't have to depend on Sonny. He won't always be there for me. So when the weather cools off a bit.........bus trip!
