Reflections of My Life

I got my laundry done today. I have a new rule in place now to make this easier to manage (for me). If I have two nightgowns in the laundry hamper, then it is time to wash laundry. If I have more than two it is too much because it means I have other clothing too and it is piling up. Small loads are easier. Today I had Rabbit's blanket and the two sheets I use for steps for him to get into his cage. So along with the towels and my sheets it was too big....too much. 4 washers and 2 dryers.

So I found out today that it is definitely a fact that our building has been sold. Instead of getting upset like many people are doing...........I am thinking maybe it will be better for us. Maybe they will put money into fixing things that need to be fixed. Like the roof, the parking lot, the leaking cellar every time it rains..............the ELEVATOR! Just because a new company buys it doesn't mean they will be evicting us all for no reason. They are in business and need the apartments filled. I am not worrying about it till there is a reason to worry.
Wow! I hope you are right about the new owners fixing things! That would be great!

Wednesday evening I was washing dishes and talking on the phone to Sonny. One of my glasses, it is orange retro type.....tall with a narrow bottom. I use it for frothing the cream for my coffee in the morning. Well the cream coats the bottom of the glass even if I put water in it after using it. I was pushing the dish rag in the bottom to clean it and...POP!

It broke and cut my finger! I bled and quickly had to press it to stop it. Then put a band-aid on it. It looks like a skin tear type of cut but is deeper than that. Now I have to be careful with it and not put any pressure on that finger. Right near the bend in the finger so it is a pain in more ways than one.

I have a new goal.........not slouching in my chair at the computer. I try to sit straight up but then forget a few minutes later. Proper posture results in less back, shoulder and neck pain. I know this is true but it is also one of those things I do without thinking. I think I will put a post-it note on my computer to remind me.

Today I am going to go outside for my walk. I have not gone outside or for a walk in a few days. Been lazy I guess with the change in weather. Though I look forward to fall every year. My favorite time. Now I am planning on taking the bus to Walmart to shop and see if I get there and back on my own. I have not decided what day yet but hopefully as soon as the cool weather is more constant.
Hope the cut on your finger doesn't need stitches and that it is healing well.

I finally have neighbors on both sides of me and across the hall again. So my floor is not so quiet. I like it. It is nice to know that I am not the only person here. They are both younger couples, disabled. But I do see the younger people are out most of the day. While us seniors are around home more.

At night though, it is very quiet. I imagine they watch television in their bedrooms because I never hear anything from either apartment. And their living rooms are the room that is next to mine. My television is in the middle of my apartment so they cannot hear mine either. I try to be a good neighbor.

Yesterday I was gifted a container of at least two dozen home raised eggs! White and brown. Small but they are going to be so good.........and so orange! One of my neighbors downstairs brought them up to me because he had too many and his aunt gave him more. He said everyone told him that I love eggs (my reputation!). I said I do and took them happily. Good healthy options which I eat daily.

Yesterday, I went grocery shopping with Sonny at Walmart. It was uneventful just a normal shopping trip. When we came out of the store, we ran into a woman he used to work with. So stood there talking and finally I had to excuse myself and go to the car. I cannot stand in one place for long. I should have just sat on my walker seat but we were in the parking lot and cars going round and round. When I came home I was in pain....my knees.

I don't know how I did it but I stood in the kitchen and made a big salad for my supper. My only meal of the day. Then did Rabbit's cage (just normal cleaning did not get to do the extreme cleaning I was planning on doing yesterday morning). I had to really hold on to walk. After I ate my supper I turned off the computer and went to sleep in the recliner. Did not do the dishes, which were a small amount but I hate to ever leave anything in the sink at night.

So today, not sure what I will do but I won't be standing up for long periods. I have meat to vacuum pack but I can do that from my walker seat. Probably will put off the extreme cleaning of Rabbit's cage till tomorrow or the day after.

Yeah, you're doing the right thing in taking care of those knees, @katlupe! If I overdo it (walking), I take a day or two off to let my knees rest.

I am really enjoying the cooler temps these past few days. Fall is my favorite time followed by spring. It seems to be a contradiction to like those two seasons the best. Summer and winter are extreme. I am not an extreme person these days if I ever was. Of course, hot weather has always made my feet swell as far back as in my 40's. So that contributed to my dislike of summer. When I was young though, growing up in FL during my teen years I loved the hot weather.

I spent almost every day at the beach when my family moved to Flagler Beach. We lived a mile from the ocean and almost daily I walked that mile to the beach and spent the whole day there until late afternoon. Then walked home unless someone gave me a ride. Had to help with supper since my mother worked and I would get stuff prepared for when she got home so she could finish it.

Flagler Beach though, 14 miles north of Daytona Beach, gets cold in the winter. I remember having to wear a coat in winter. I had a group of friends that were pretty close and we saw each other almost daily. Some of them are now my friends on fakebook. On week-ends when we had parties there were a lot of kids at them. Most of them drank beer but I did not. My mother told me if I ever drank one sip she would ground me for a year. She would too!

I just got back from the park. It was so nice, yet barely any people there. Traffic, but that is about it. On my way to the ramp I ran into my neighbor from across the hall. He asked if later I would help him with his new medications. He can't read and they just sent them to him and he does not want them to be mixed up. So that will be later as he was on his way out with his bicycle.

@katlupe
Flagler Beach suffered quite a lot of damage caused by hurricane Ian. A part of the pier was torn off in the storm. They are planning to replace it with a concrete structure in the next few years. The region including Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach and New Smyrna Beach suffered from erosion with damage to dunes and structures, as well as roads. It was so sad to see.
They are putting great effort into restoring it. Lots of the work could not be started right away because it fell into turtle nesting period.
I do not want to erase your great memories of your time spent there but just wanted to let you know what happened to your beloved beach in case you had not heard.

Oh yes, I have heard. My friends from there are my friends on fakebook. Talk to them every day. I saw the pictures. Do you live there? Or near there?

That was a nice thing for you to help him with! I hope he can see while riding the bicycle, lol.

Oh my...he can't see to read ...do you think he's safe riding a bike ?

No, I just mentioned this to my friend yesterday. Nothing to do with reading but the other day he was looking at his friend who was on his bike and he didn't see the parking sign in front of an empty parking spot and ran right into it. He crashed into it and ended up on the ground. Said he was seeing stars. Got right back on though.

oh dear, that's a real concern... what if it's a child he doesn't see ?

Saturday I sat in the park with my friend from downstairs. We just sat and talked and people watched. There was a farmer's market and booths of people selling various items. I got hungry smelling the food booths, which did smell good. I did not want to spend any money so just enjoyed my time there. Then went home and fixed my breakfast and made my own specialty coffee. There was a lot of people there so quite crowded.

I am in the middle of throwing things away that I do not want or use anymore. I am way past trying to sell stuff. Many items are sentimental and have to get beyond that first. I remind myself that my mother was not a materialistic person and that it would not matter to her if I gave away something or not. So I find that helps.

I plan on making a little more room in here. I have too much furniture along the wall so think if I can find a place to keep the items that are in the cedar chest it would be better. Get rid of the cedar chest. For me there is no sense in keeping excess stuff. I have no one to pass things along to. My son is incapable of taking care of his things that he has now so I don't want to give him my things too. So that is that. Not looking for any other solutions. Just thinking about getting to work on it right now.

Have a good day!

This morning, Sonny did not call me. He is having a biopsy done on his kidney. His daughter took him and is there with him right now. She posted when they took him in about an hour ago on fakebook.

I have been going to sleep later than I used to. Not sure if it has been due to the time change or just fall. So do not get up as early as I used to. Which I do not like. I really enjoyed those wee early morning hours. Cuts down on my computer time because I have other things to do.

It seems to me that I as get older, time races by even faster. Now I get to reading or watching a video then look at the time........where did it go? I had things to do and then have to hurry to get them done. I hate hurrying, so am making an effort to watch the time a bit more than I was. So speaking of time.........have to make a trip to the dumpster and maybe a walk in the park.

I hope Sonny's biopsy results in good news.
Thank you, Radish!

He is back in his room for now. Waiting for him to wake up. He has to stay overnight in the hospital to make sure the kidneys do not bleed. It always takes him longer to wake up after surgery than a normal person. His daughter said he did good though.
