Reflections of My Life

Sun is shining again this morning. This is getting to be a regular thing lately. I am planning on taking another walk this morning. I had a hard time going outside in the hot summer but now it is nice. Refreshes me a bit. I miss those long walks I did daily when I lived in the forest. Of course, I was not using a walker then. Probably hard to push it around in the forest and on the dirt road.

Beautiful here too Kat. 67 degrees. Just walked around our complex twice and got 1200 steps.
 
For some reason over the week-end I was craving a salad from the Italian restaurant ($10 for small $16 for large). Now I rarely want food from a restaurant but I was. So instead on Monday I ordered the ingredients for the antipasto salad by copying the restaurant's ingredients for their salad. Then I made my own avocado oil Italian salad dressing. Well, the lettuce was in one of those plastic bags and it was horrible. I had to pick out the ones I would want to eat. Trashed the rest. The other things were good.........cucumber, grape tomatoes, red onion, hot pepper rings, black olives, provolone cheese, pepperoni & salami.

It was good but by Tuesday I did not really want it anymore. My craving was gone.

When I grew my own vegetables they were really good. Right from the garden I would make a salad. The produce in the grocery stores is tasteless, old and cost too much for a poor quality product. Luckily that was just a passing fancy...........craving something I remembered from another time. Probably in my own homestead kitchen. I do not believe there are any nutrients in the produce sold in the stores. They package everything in plastic so it develops condensation inside the bag or container. Even for Rabbit I have to pick through every lettuce leaf to find the good ones!

After my bunny boy passes away I will not even look at produce anymore. If I have to have a vegetable it will be in the frozen food department. Those are usually picked fresh and frozen immediately. Not traveling in a truck across the country before they are ripe.
 
I know around here the selection of frozen fruit is kinda lousy and expensive. The veggies are a little better. I prefer canned. I drain the juice off before serving.
 
I can't believe it is Friday already. A week flies by for me anymore. I had to turn my heat on this morning because it was cold. I don't know the temperature because I have stopped checking it. I am not checking on the weather anymore. If my table feels cold to touch then I turn the heat on. Today I will get the stuff from my storage locker that I use to weather proof my windows. Not going to cover everything yet but at least the windowsill.

Our maintenance man has been doing a great job of keeping the halls and public rooms clean and vacuumed. He is not here every day. So when he comes back it is all dirty again. In just one day! Adults live here, no children. If they drop something on the floor or the ramp they do not pick it up. Some people moving in and another person getting rid of some furniture so it left tracks on the carpet in the hall. And crumbs and little bits of things. Just left it.

I can just imagine what their apartments look like. Like when they do laundry they bring it in to the laundry room in the huge black garbage bags because they have not done it in a long time. That explains how they have time to hang out at the picnic tables all day long. I do not have the time to do that even if I wanted to. Well different people, different lifestyles.
 
Today looks like a beautiful fall day. Cool, crisp air with the sun shining brightly. I will be going out to the dumpster so maybe will get a short walk in. Sit in the sun a little too. I don't know if there is anything going on in the parks or not. Sometimes on Saturday they do that.

This morning I am tearing up.....FINALLY!..........the love emails I had printed out of Sonny's & my "early days" of finding each other. Not for anyone else to see. I am sad reading them though because our relationship has changed a lot since then. Now we are basically friends, good friends. But that excitement of a new person and that sexual energy is not there now. Nor would I expect to be. He takes a lot of drugs and that affects his physical part. I usually only see him about once a month anyway and it is only to do some kind of errands.

After doing a bunch of chores this morning, I haven't done too much work this afternoon. Now I am cooking supper which is a couple of burgers made of ground beef and ground mild Italian sausage. I mix them together. It comes from a recipe for meatballs that I used to make. Now I find it easier to just make patties and cook in the oven.

No keto ice cream today, I ran out. My delivery is supposed to come Monday but it is a holiday so don't expect it. I would have liked that ice cream today though.

 
I cut my laundry budget amount in half since I started washing my clothing by hand in the bathroom. Hanging it in the shower and then move it to the clothing rack near the windows. It might be lower than half as I am just guessing. I am going to keep track starting in November. What made me do that was the horrific smell of laundry products that other tenants use in the machines in the laundry room. Another advantage is that I am using Dr. Bonner's unscented organic soap and now my clothing not only smells clean but feel clean. Those smells from laundry kill me!

I am still doing the bedding and towels down there because I cannot wash them by hand. I will be using Dr. Bonner's soap and white vinegar in the machines eventually. First I have a huge bottle of laundry detergent to use up. It is the one I have used forever so I must be used to it. It has not affected me yet. After it is gone it will be just Dr. Bonner's.

I love these fall days! I would stay outside longer in the mornings but smokers make me leave and go inside. They just don't realize how much they ruin the outdoors for other people. I suppose they think I am stuck up or something because I do not socialize with them. It is not them, it is their addiction's odor. I can barely ride on the elevator with a smoker.

I won my case with eBay! They put $26. back in my account. I had ordered gel pen refills and the seller did not send me a tracking number. Then I sent him an email to ask about it and he sent me a tracking number that said it had been delivered the week before! No it wasn't. I think he had a way to scam a tracking number from the post office saying it was delivered. I looked on my USPS dashboard and it had no history of being delivered to me. I reported it and eBay said they would look at it. I figured I would not win because he had that fake tracking number.

Now more coffee and reworking my budget for 2026.
 
where i live it would cost me probably $10 one way by uber to the laundromat. it's $2 to $3 a load to wash and a quarter for 5 min in the dryer. then another $10 back with uber. in the summer there's no a/c in there and some rather sketchy people go in there.

i do all my stuff by hand including bed sheets. i have a drying rack i put in the shower and let it hang to dry. as for the comforter, i just use it til it gets too nasty then toss it and buy a new one. it's what works for me. the comforters get wrecked in the machine anyway.

glad you got your ebay money back. i can't shop on there because i don't trust it.

This is the first time I have had an issue on eBay as a buyer. I trust it because I was a seller for many years. I loved selling on there and wish I could still do it. But I hate the packaging part and my husband used to do that for me.

We have a laundry room on the lower level of our building. Don't have to leave the building.

I decided to take the handles off one of my dressers to clean them up. Then I found the screwdrivers I have that are really old (and belonged to my father) and will not work on these screws. So I ordered a screwdriver set that includes those short handled ones which is what I need. I didn't plan on buying a whole set but it was less than ten bucks and is for a variety of ones. Not sure what else I will ever use them for but at least I will have them in case something comes up.

we have the same here... if I needed to use a laundrette... there's not one available for 2 towns.. so if I got an uber it would be a £50 round trip..

I have so many sets of screwdrivers in the barn, all belonged to the X..who didnt want them after he left because instead of this big house and gardens, he moved into a Luxury penthouse apartment, so I was left with all his tools.. and I don't use them..because I have my own.. for example I have my own cordless drill and cordless screwdriver with a box of bits....I have hammer, and mallets, and you name it tools...

When he first left and my daughter had just bought her new house, she chose what she needed from the barn in the way of tools.. saws, hammers etc.. but there's still boxes of tools in the Barn still that aren't being used.. it's a pity !

I am expecting my Keto Chow delivery today. It says it will be delivered today by UPS so that could be anytime and most likely late afternoon. Also getting an Amazon delivery which usually comes from the post office so not sure that will get here due to it being Columbus Day. That is okay because I don't need it immediately. It is a 8 pack of Zevia Peaches & Cream soda (sugar free, which is all they make). I tried it and it was so good I had to order more even though I drink it very sparingly. It is a limited edition so thought I better get it now.

I love it when I get up and nobody else in my building is up and about. Or at least they are quiet. Most of them now, are so noisy. I wonder how old they think they are. Yesterday it sounded like a children's playground out back. So many of them have super loud voices or at least they raise them so the whole town can hear them. When they leave their apartments they slam doors and talk loudly outside the elevator which is right across the hall from me. I might start vacuuming and playing loud music early in the morning when I get up. See how they like it!

I don't like to be a complainer or a whiner but this floor used to be so quiet and now it so loud my son even mentions it to me. Soon I will weatherize my windows and won't hear them from outside. But figure they will not sitting out at the picnic tables once it gets cold. Maybe in the garden shed. Coughing and smoking all day.

I just placed a grocery order so it should be here anytime from ten to 12 this morning. If I want it early I have to place it as early as possible. Not paying for a faster delivery though.

Having coffee right now......
 
The thing is Kat... if they can't hear you they'll probably preume you can't hear them IYSWIM...

Often people who are quiet and solitary... have neighbours that are super loud , and it's usually because these people don't realise how thin the walls might be because they never hear their quiet neighbour ..... it probably would be a good idea ... to turn on the vac, and the radio early in the morning, and they'll know then just how loud they might be sounding..

I might do that. But then I don't like the noise of anything early in my day. Except the birds outside.

I don't hear anyone through the walls. Just when they are outside in the backyard or in my hall waiting for the elevator.
