Reflections of My Life

I am feeling really good these last few days. Maybe because I finally took the steps to go to therapy and learn how to manage this part of my life. My knees still hurt. Walking is still difficult. I figure I can deal with that. Just want to keep the swelling down and will do whatever I have to do.

Today and the next three days I am working on my apartment, Spring cleaning. Taking down all the winter weatherizing I did. Make it look bright and cheery for spring and summer.
My knees have been hurting lately also. Got them xrayed. Doctor said I was not walking properly. I was surprised. He prescribed physical therapy but I still haven't gone. Looked up some Youtube videos and started doing the exercises (strengthening glut muscles and not walking with heel first). Doing better. Good luck!

I thought we were supposed to walk with heels first.
Also I understood that to thrust out the foot for a step is supposed to help push water back up to the heart.

Good morning, I will be gradually catching up on this nice thread of yours. ☺️

You may have mentioned the answer to my question, but...😊

Did the new washers and dryers arrive yet?

Going to therapy three days a week reminds me of what it was like to have a job. I feel like I am on that pressure wheel again. Have to do everything I can on the days I don't go. Then even on those days, I can't just take the day as it comes which is what I normally do. I have appointments set up all the way to the beginning of June. When the compression garments Lexy ordered for me come in she said I will not have to come in that often. I can't wait!

So no appointment today but I have a bunch of things to do. First being placing a grocery order for a few things I need. Then need to do the whole dry brushing, shower & re-wrapping routine. Makes taking a shower a big deal and I hate that. I guess this is how my life goes from now. At least till the new compression things arrive. They are supposed to be easy on and easy off. Velcro. Today I am going to start using the compression sleeves again after the shower. Before I apply the lotion and wraps.

Sonny is not going to be taking me out for my errand day on Friday. Going to figure out how to accomplish it all on my own. If it wasn't for my son it would be no problem. He is my biggest source of stress in my life. Nothing new. Has always been. So glad I only had one child and no grand kids. I am really not a kid person. I will get it done. I usually do.

Yesterday they finally removed the laundry equipment from the laundry room. Not sure when the new company will be installing the new ones. Maybe some type of work needs to be done where the old ones were first. I will be happy, I think, to have new washers and dryers to use. The other ones always had a problem.

Last night Sonny called me and he sounded awful. He fell again! This time he landed right on his back and took him an hour or more to get up. He was bringing groceries in so had the bags in one hand and reached over to adjust his AC. When he did he slid on his dogs' doggie pad that was on the floor. Down he went. Hit his head too. By the time he called me he was in his bed, his dogs kept barking to go out, his groceries were all over his floor (and he could not pick them up), he had food out on the counter he was fixing for his & the dogs' supper.

He had called his daughter and she sent her son over to help him. He came while I was on the phone with him. Bad enough that his ribs had not healed completely yet from his last fall. I haven't heard from him yet this morning. Don't want to call if he is sleeping, IF he is able to sleep.
Wow, that's too bad about Sonny taking another bad fall. ☹️

I hope you get the new washers soon, and that you'll enjoy having them.

Change in plans! Sonny will be taking me out Friday to do my errands. He said he will do it that at least he can drive me and just stay in the car. That means I can get everything done. Happy about that. He has been using those gummies for pain and I guess they are working. Don't know much about those.

Today I have my therapy appointment. Now today I am looking forward to it. Feel better this morning and that makes a difference. I am noticing that when everything runs smoothly for me without interruptions I am in a much better mood. Ordering groceries is a stressful thing unless I pay five bucks for the express. Otherwise I wait around all day for it. Maybe Walmart does that on purpose to make more people pay for express delivery. Anyway I find it is more convenient for me to order what I can from Amazon. Usually around the same price. Except no tip! So that makes a difference too.

Yesterday I cleaned off my windowsill and it looks nice. I try to keep as much clutter off it as possible. But the internet equipment is on it and I can't do anything about that. So I decorate around it. Also the air conditioner takes up one whole window. It is a puzzle trying to make everything fit. It would be one thing if I didn't use it all but I do. So I do the best I can. Two small closets that are quite full. Need to clean them out and either get rid of stuff or put it away in my storage locker. I will work on it when I am not going to these appointments so much.

kat i don't understand why walmart is so stressful for you. if you get in on the 2 hr delievery time that's not all day. i usually set mine for between 12 and 2. i usually have my stuff by 1 at the latest. i never get express delivery unless i absolutely have to. i don't think they set those times on purpose to get you to pay for the express. they are doing more than one order at a time is why they set it that way.

I think the difference is in my area. Maybe not as many drivers as in your city. They will keep saying "searching for a driver" or "driver on the way to the store".

It is only stressful for me when I have to do other things. That is why I try to place orders very early in the morning and sometimes pay for express. I am afraid to order the night before in case our elevator is not working the next day. I make sure it is working before placing an order. It is no big deal. I usually manage to get what I need.

Therapy was good today! My new Velcro wraps came in. The total price was $487.80 and Medicare & UHC paid it all. That does not cover the compression stockings which did not come in yet. I like these. They fit great. Feel great and easy to walk in. There is a stocking underneath (black) and the wraps are two parts, one for the foot and one for the leg. Easy to put on and take off too. The picture angle makes my legs look larger than they actually are. I will try to take better photos. This was just a quick shot.

New company is here installing our new laundry room equipment right now.

That is the same company that my complex uses.

Ours operate with a plastic card or with a smartphone. When they installed our new machines they gave us a card loaded with $5.00.

We have a kiosk that we can use to load
money on the laundry card using a credit card.

It works great for me but many neighbors don’t have a credit card or smartphone so they now use a local launderette that still accepts quarters.

I like the high efficiency washers but the dryer design tends to roll sheets towels etc… into a tight ball which can be a bit annoying.

I can get by with one wash split between two dryers each week, if I’m careful.

Sounds crazy but I now spend more on doing my laundry than I spend on gas for my car, life changes and we just keep going. 😉🤭😂

I just visited their website and am wondering if I can pay online from my computer? I don't have a smartphone and am not getting one. I have already had two people at my door telling me about the new card and how to pay. No way am I using a credit card. Maybe I will wash some in my bathroom like I was doing. And since my walking is improving maybe I can take small loads to the laundromat. Sheets, towels & bedding I do not like to wash in my bathroom sink. Or take the bus. I will be testing that out soon.

Before I understood about the kiosk, I called Hercules and they loaded money onto my laundry card over the phone using my credit card information.

I’m not sure about using a computer but it seems like that would be an option.

The kiosk is my best option and is very easy to use with a credit card.

I will check out all options and figure out what works for me. I can pay with a credit card and then just add that amount to my payment. Probably will do that. There are a number of people living here who do not have credit cards or debit cards and do not know how to use a phone for payments. I have one lady who lives upstairs that I have to try to help that is in that situation.

My generation was taught that the reward is in the doing, not in the updating. I hold conversations that aren't interrupted by a buzzing pocket, and I read books that require deep thought, not quick-skim articles. I am not anti-technology; I am pro-human connection. I choose to spend my time with real friends, and to manage my affairs through personal interaction rather than algorithms.
It can be said that we are creating a world where everyone is connected. I see a world where everyone is distracted. I am perfectly happy being the exception, does that make me a Luddite?
The Luddites were 19th century textile workers who destroyed the new technology weaving machines, this was back between 1811 to 1816, they argued that those machines threatened their livelyhood, their wages and their craft skills. Nowadays it seems that if we don't embrace the internet and all the technology that goes with it, we get branded a Luddite.

True. But it seems every time I ever tried to remain free of it there was some reason it would sneak into my life. Moving into an off the grid home in 1999 with no running water and no wires to it I felt excited and positive about my life there. Then my husband got into solar and building a system to power our house. Eventually I was working online and homesteading at the same time.

By the time I left there I could not handle that life anymore due to my mobility issues. Must be I worked too hard there. Now I just accept it since everyone else does and it is how I live here without having to depend on others. I am not a phone person but a computer person. The phone though is my safety net so I carry it with me everywhere I go.

I see on their website there is an invoice payment option but I think it's only if you have a paper bill. You might wanna contact customer service. I hope it won't be a bother for you. I went ahead and got a smart phone even though I didn't want to. Glad I did or I'd never be able to log into almost anything I have on the computer.
