Reflective thoughts and poems

I haven't written any poems for ages - I'm going through lifes changes? - but it is true - unrequited loves ;broken marriages ; no more life of ease - they all get in the way. Today it just burst out again?? - maybe a good change? - I live in the middle of a small forest - sometimes just relaxing other times lonely!

The Ghosts Who Never Come?

Four PM sitting
Egg shell blue sky
Strong cooling breezes
To bring chilling nights

Boab trees immovable
Can't be brought to their knees
Only their nuts
Will drop down and seed

Smoking my peace pipe
But a tight hold on that
One loose fallen ember
And the forests alight!

Dog lies in slumber
Well fed for the eve
Too hot to go chasing
Wild kangas in dreams

Shadows of trees
Sneak across forest floor
But the sun hasn't set yet
Hasn't hit heavens floor

Every evening I try
To catch Heavens change
From sunlight to darkness
But the mystery remains

I can sit; talk to myself
Or the family gone bye
But still miss that moment
Of blue to grey skies

The scene starts to differ
From Ozzie forest to Cheshire glades
And then I just wait
For the ghosts - never came?

I wrote several poems to my husband when he was alive. I wrote the poem below as a Christmas gift not long after we had met. I had it buried with him.

My Christmas Gift
I thought that life has passed me by
But I had not gave up hope
I kept on trudging right along
And learning how to cope

To cope with being by myself
I knew that wouldn't last
Because you came into my life
And now my past is past

A new beginning just you and I
We started a life anew
I can't imagine what life would be like
If I had not met, you

I thank God for the gift he sent
The gift he sent was you
Forever I'll be faithful
Forever I'll be true

Merry Christmas George
You are my treasured gift
This poem is heartfelt and brought me to tears. I could relate to it, @TeePee! Losing a loved one is not easy. Thank you for sharing!

This poem is amazing, @smiley! You brought your unique environment into the reader's life. I experienced and sensed the "Egg shell blue sky," the "Shadows of trees / Sneak across forest floor," the well-fed dog, your smoking, etc. Great visuals here. I also liked how you weaved in "heaven" into the poem. Great work!

I'm glad you appreciated it. I'm not much of a poet but I tried writing my husband poems time to time to let him know how I felt. I'm going to post another one I wrote for the minister and his wife who married us. He wanted me to write one for them.

I wrote this for the minister and his wife that married me and my husband.

Looking For Love

If everyone who searched for love
Would look within their heart
They would find that that is where
The search for love should start

It's not just for romantic love
It's for human love and caring
To have your life to be fulfilled
It has to start with sharing

Sharing thoughts and giving back
The love you have within
Expecting nothing in return
That's where love begins

Eventually we would see
People's hearts start turning
And give back to us the love we gave
The love that we've been yearning

Great poem, and philosophical, @TeePee! Thanks for sharing!

I have been busy with a number of things, including work, music, and ongoing projects. I had some free time today to share what I have been doing.
My new deck has finally been completed. I had been extremely pressed to complete it this year after the fox died underneath my sunroom back in April/May of this year. I wanted the entire bottom of the deck and sunroom closed off to any critters. I have taken a picture from inside the sunroom, but you get the idea. The deck is made up of composite wood. I like the color and the white rails add a nice touch.

Today, I found some free time to paint in my studio while listening to YouTube videos.

The final project I have been busy with is my involvement in an orchestra. One of the pieces we are playing is The Red Pony by Copland. As you can see, I have many markings on the music because they help me with changes in tempo, rhythm, and keys. This is standard for me. I always mark my music.
Here is a Youtube link to the Copland piece from another orchestra, so you get an idea of what it sounds like:

So all of these projects were in addition to my teaching and other social activities. I try and keep myself busy as best I can. Time is against me, so I pack as much as I can in being creative.

Your studio looks so bright and cheerful! Such an inspiration for your painting! The deck is a nice addition and so smart to block it so the critters can't get under it. I have had them do that at my prior house too. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for your feedback, @katlupe! It was a stressful year for me, but slowly, I am turning it around so I can enjoy the fruits of my labor. Hope you have a great day!

Vermont in the fall always tugs at my heart. Wrote this in 1970, not long after I got home from Vietnam.

.....I-91....

A stretch of road
where hills roll by
A lonesome curve
no homes near-by

A bridge that spans
the water blue
A sky so clear
for me and you

A bird soars high
above this land
looking down on the ribbon
cut by man's hand

Beauty runs wild
Up here in the fall
tree's turn to rainbows
sharing beauty with all

A road that runs
for miles on end
I wonder what's up there
around the next bend

Wow! What vivid images your poem evoked as I read it! The photo was also a great addition! Thanks so much for sharing, @squatting dog!
