My "go-to" birthday gift for someone of.....uh.....advanced years is a magazine that came out the month of that person's birth. It's really fun to go back and read the articles, see what were "hot issues" and laugh at the ads back then.
They used to be easy to find in antique shops but now I have to order them on the internet.
Speaking of ads, I have an old Ladies' Home Journal that I bought for my late mother that has an ad that says, "Don't Ask for Toilet Paper.....Ask for Scott Tissue. It's the Proper Thing to Do!" Because, y'know, we cahn't talk about toilet paper in public.....
